    Hi all.

This is a question for a fellow aquatic friend.

He bought one of those Resun Stream Filters SF-400

It comes with Carbon insert , Zeolite insert and a sponge.

He has been cycling his tank for a month with Seachem stability, he tested his water last weekend and they told him all is fine he can add fish.

The question is when must he replace the zeolite? I know the carbon he can remove from the filter.

With these filters can he remove the carbon and zeolite filter inserts and then put some Seachem matrix in it's place?

    Please advise.

Zeolite and carbon are classified as chemical filtration.
    Sponge is classified as mechanical.

but the most important filtration it biological, which would actually be the Matrix. In my honest opinion, I would remove the carbon, really a waste of space, (only use it when needed), and replace the carbon with Matrix. Then in about 3 months time I would remove the zeolite, and add more matrix. If you can, put some filter wool into the filter as well. You want the water to flow through:
Filter wool first (to catch particles)- replace when clogged
then sponge (to catch more particles, and minor biological filtration occurs here)- just rinse out in aquarium water once a month
then Matrix (biological filtration)- just rinse half one month, then the other half another month
