    Hey all.

This might just clear a few wondering minds.

How do you all do your water changes?

Do you let it stand for a while before adding it to the tank.

Or do you just take tap water from the sink and then just add a bit of warm water.

I know we all add our dechlor like seachem prime etc.

Lets see what methods we all use around here.

And the MAIN QUESTION do any of you have water purifiers on your sink taps?

I use 25 l water containers, add Aquasafe and let it sit for at least a
week before I use it. I use a 150 watt heater to heat up the water
    before using it.

I do WC weekly and normally about 30%

i gently rinse filter sponges in tank water once a month

I did a DIY gravelvac with a small pump recirculating the tanks
water while I can take my time to do a thorough vacuum

I have been doing this for many years.

I just empty the amount of water needed from the tank, I then fill my bucket with a little bit of warm water, then add the cold water and make sure the water is the same then my tank water.

I then add my seachem prime a little bit more then usual just for in case, then let it stand for about 5 minutes and then back into the tank.

I might change this method to the letting water stand for a day and then heat it up with a heater then pump it back in the tank with a nice strong pump.

Hey woerman, can you maybe show us a couple of pics on your DIY gravelvac.

Maybe us all can make one of these:blink1:

i don't add anything. i have two 25l buckets that i always have full of water from the moment i do the water change i just refil them and let them stay until the next time (once a week). i also don't heat up the water since i only change about 20 percent, normally the the temperature only drops one or two degrees which in my case is not too crucial as i keep Koi and Gold fish which are quite resistant to cold. for heating the water i just leave the buckets in the sum for 30 or so minutes while i'm draining the tank and cleaning the substrate

I do my gravel vac removing 50l (into 2 25l buckets) from my 300l. I then fill up the buckets using a combo of geyser and cold water to the desired temp. I put in dechlor and Nutrafin Cycle and let the buckets stand for 10 - 20min with an air stone in each to agitate the water. I then lift the buckets to a height where the syphon will work and syphon the water back into the tank.

@Marc - yes absolutely. from the moment i fill them up i put the lid on and forget about it till the next water change. i fill the buckets straight after i finish changing the water i case i forget to fill them up later in the week. i got two plastic buckets the cheapest i could find if i remember correctly i only paid 35.00 for each nothing special

also i believe that by letting the water sit for a full week i don't have to add any prime to it.. i could be wrong of course and maybe my fish are just die hards but so far no problems

@hotsauce, rather start adding a dechlor it is just safer to use it SEACHEM prime is like the BEST on the market. Rather be safe then sorry.

@hiviviers, i totally agree with you on the rather safe than sorry basis but unfortunately i live in a country with only one pet shop and they don't sell any SEACHEM products. i wanted to get some filter media from the same brand but no luck unless i order it on line. i have water conditioner for SERA which i do use but maybe not as prescribed on the bottle but less to the volume of water

I'm probably going to get flak for this but this is how I do it.
I take out 25L of water from my 3ft. Measure how much was lost due to evaporation with tapemeasure and calculator. Add seachem prime or ACE. Connect the hose to the tap and let it fill the tank. The current pushes up any debris after the waterchange and my powerhead then collects this. The fish have always been OK with this and my corys often spawned after larger watechanges.

I do 30% to 40% weekly water changes using my siphon to remove debris, waste etc

I premix the water in a 20L bucket with prime with a ratio of +10% of the recommended dose

I also ensure that the water is the same as the water in my tank, using water from the geyser (the water temperature in the bucket is measured using the common Submersible Suction Glass Temperature Thermometer)

FYI -> I do 6 weekly maintenance on my external canister filter

I do 2 x 20% water changes per week. I have a 120l container where I put in tap water. I add Seachem prime and a 2500l/h pump to circulate the water from bottom upwards. No airstones needed as the water flow creates surface movement. I let this water stand with the pump running for 3 days before doing a gravel Vacuum and pumping the treated water into the tank.

The container stays in the house so I don't use heaters to warm up the water. Treated water temp stays between 23-26 degrees.

I do 1 30% water change a week using 4 parts RO water to one part tap. ( Also let the tap water sit for 24 hours) total 80 liters. Add Prime a hour before water goes in tank. And this is the smart part. Heat your water in the tub. I put all my water containers in the tub and fill it with luke warm water. Throw in a thermo in each container and remove once temp is reached. So no geyser water. There is too much crap in a geyser.
