Cardboard cut out, paint desired colour.

(that's the easiest DIY, and won't cost a fortune. But won't stand the water.)

    LOL

One idea that I had a while back was to use the florescent suspended light fitting that you get in offices, maybe try and get one of those and the material is nice and thin so should be easy to modify to your tank size??

hmm, that is a great idea, otherwise just use some epoxy resin on the cardboard, then you will have a fairly cheap and water resistant lid

I cover my tanks with a piece of glass of which the corners are cut at a 45 degree angle for all the wiring and pipes. Cut it about 2cm bigger than your tank and wollah lie it on your tank. Yeah the lights lie on top - just remeber my tanks arn't that big but i have a 900 x 400 tank

Remember to use epoxy on the canopy after you made it.(makes it water resistent)

its realy not that dificult to diy a canopy. decide on a design and go to timbercity and have them cut some pine shelving for you and u can asemble and paint it yourself. should also cost less than R500

    You say canopy.

Do you want to use it strictly as a lid for the tank, or do you want to attach lights to it?

Either way a good piece of perspex will cost you all of a hundred bucks, and you can get it cut to size in any colour you like.

    Mayzee Plastics in Paarden Eiland.

(Not sure how to spell Mayzee)

They are in Neptune Street if I recall (basically the street running through Paarden Eiland if you come out of the port)

They'll cut it to exact specs, if it's not any elaborate shape of course.

    Normally about R100 for a 1x1m at 3mm(I think).

Depending on the size you need to cover, might need much thicker so it doesn't flex.

persepx is expensive and does not keep its shape.

cheaper to just buy another tank and canopy
