I found a hillstream loach in my lfs and i wanted to know has anyone got one of these and and give me feed back on the following.

    1. Do they eat plants more specifically damage plants such as the amazon sword or not.
Any other info would be most useful thanks i know they need cooler temp and high o2 and fast water.

One thing that is important to know about this species as well as related species is that they aren't really algae eaters - instead, the eat invertebrates that live in the algae. Therefore, not being herbiviourous, they won't damage plants. Normally they'll accept frozen invert-based foods that are offered, as well as sinking pellets.

As far as their setup goes, try to get some good current going. They love current and love high oxygen in their water - a good powerhead or filter with a powerhead will help with this. Also, they don't appreciate heat, so try to keep the tank's temperature in the low 20's.

Hope this little bit of info helps.

Also not a fish for a newbie as they are extremely sensitive. of the 30 i put in the 2.5 i think 10 or 15 actually made it. I was speaking to another fishkeeper yesterday he has bought them 4 times and each time they all die
