Has anybody kept these fish for long periods of time successfully?
I've red posts on the internet that some people even reported spawns.
just want to say that they are real characters and very difficult to catch.

I have kept mine in a not-particularly-well mantained setup for about three months. They are not nearly as fussy as I'd read from internet sources. It was a gift from a friend and I LOVE the little bugger! Such characters :) Just direct your flow so that it hits the side of the tank at some stage (also hitting the water surface). This ensures two critical things for the hillstream loach > Flow and oxygen. Their origins are highly oxygenated turbulent streams.. Also I keep mine succesfully at standard tropical temperatures without any problems.

Catching them!! Now that is another story entirely. :p

they require colder water as it retains more oxygen dane . they will survive but not grow to well .

they need a lot of water flow as dane said but still keep temp low around 23 .

I have 4 of these buggers and I am really enjoying them. As stated above they prefer cooler, fast running and well oxygenated water. I've seen them sold as "Hong Kong Pleco" because of their habit of sitting on tank glass. I'm trying to grow some algae on some smooth stones in my old quarantine tank as a special treat for them:cool:. Deffinate :top:

As a matter of interrest, how do these rate in terms of general algae control?

I've kept Sewellia Lineolata, the gold striped hillstream loach...

These fish need three factors to be kept successfully:
    1. Algae, loads of it
    2. Cool, subtropical temps 20-21C max
    3. Descent water flow, not hectic - just a good powerhead directed at some rocks

High oxygen content is a given ;)

Mine got wiped out when my CO2 regulator packed up and poisoned my tank killing all the fish and several plants!

Trying to source these is not easy but I will hopefully get in a few soon to restart my breeding programme. I must say they have character and are a very interesting fish to keep, besides their stunning colors!

co2 can be a vary dangerous addition to any tank if not setup correctly or when $hit happens...

I have had one for about a year now, it is in a temperature of 25 and doing gr8. They love streams and lots of oxygen, so I have a huge air-stone in there and he loves it, got me another one about a month ago, doing gr8 too. They do eat flakes too.

homaloptera zollingeri is sold in Durban. Haven't seen Beaufortia kweichowensis in LPS's yet. . .might be hard to source? How much are they anyway? They would be a nice addition.

Unfortunately, your loach is loving the airstone because the tank water is way too warm for him... if you reduce the temperature to what is suited for that fish, you will notice that he will not frequent that airstone much.

I have had the same situation with my one remaining S Lineolata.
