    Hi All

    My name is Preston
    I live just outside durban.

I have only recently got in to the hobby when i inherited a mini Jewel tank where all the tetra's were dying.
Found out it was ich and medicated them back to good health, and then the bug bit me.

I am now busy setting up a 3 foot tank for malawai's, got my black sand, filters, heater and those dual light systems, just need to do some rock work and then populate.

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I just want to warn you about malawis,a 3ft tank is not big,and you might(most probably) get problems when the fish are adults.
I made the same mistake and I am regretting it every day.

I suggest you get a bigger tank or to think about other more peaceful cichlids(like kribs).

Hi & welcome, hope you enjoy your time here with us.

As for the Cichlid idea.... hmm I think that you need to look at which species and what size they each grow to. That good old saying "Your fish will never grow bigger than your tank" is a total fallacy and I know that some other members will attest to that as well.

Let us know what species you are interested in putting in there and some of the other members will gladly give you advice and help on them.

Hi welcome to tasa.A three foot will be fine to start with a few Small malawis but they grow quickley and than you will need a bigger tank.My Malawi tank is five times your three foot tank and i am planning to double my tank size in the near future. The bigger the better for malawis and you need good fitration as well.My filters is is pumping 3200l/h.Hope this will help in your decission.

Thanks for the replies, after doing a bit of research on TASA, i agree my tank is going to be too small later on.
Im going to look at some other ideas (smaller fish). Just out of curiousity what is a right size tank for malawi's

Thanks, think im going to go the planted tetra tank route , as i currently have some neons, glowlights,x rays and black phantoms, and keep the juwel tank as a quarantine tank.
