Hi my name is Ali and i'm a newbee. I bought a secondhand 60l tank two weeks ago. It came empty with the fish in a bucket. I scrubed everything clean, filled the tank with tap water connected the filter and heater. Then i added the fish straight away. After having read some of the forum i realise that this was the wrong thing to do. I guess it's just lucky that i didn't loose any fish, as two weeks later they all look health and happy. I think that my tank is over crowded.
    12 glow lite tetras
    7 neon tetras
    2 large angels
    2 small angels
    2 rummy nosed tetras
    3 bala sharks
    2 plecos
    4 khuli loaches
    3 apple snails
    lots of live plants
    lots of small snails
As you can see i have done some reading to find out about the fish i have. I just think that there are to many in the tank. Please can some one tell me how many fish a 60l tank can hold, and how much i should be feeding them. At the moment i am giving them 6 bottom feeder pellets a small pinch of flakes one crushed white shrimp and a quarter block of tubiflex every day.

I agree 100% , u will need to do a lot of water changes to keep them alive, best thing to do is get a bigger tank or get rid of some fish
    Hope all works out...

    Welcome to TASA Ali :D

A good judge as to the quantity of food you should be feeding would be just enough that the fish will eat all the food in approximately 1-2 minutes. Obviously, the bottom feeders this would not apply to though.

Your tank is over-stocked. I would suggest taking the larger fish to your LFS and seeing whether they will exchange them for perhaps some fish food or something. Alternatively, you should consider getting another tank. Some of the larger fish is the Pleco, angels and bala sharks. The tetras are small fish and you should be okay keeping them.

    Welcome to TASA! :)

    The larger fish would be:

These fish are going to be a problem later on because they grow to quite large sizes:

    2 large angels = 10 and 15cm (5 - 7"), and is a fast grower if fed properly
    2 small angels = 10 and 15cm (5 - 7"), and is a fast grower if fed properly.
3 bala sharks = easily grow to 35 - 40cm (16") and prefer to be kept in groups of 5 or
more in suitably large aquariums - usually a minimum of 1.8m (6 foot) in
    length.
2 plecos = reach a maximum of 50cm (20") and needs a large tank with good
    water quality.

As veegal said your tank is over stocked and you should seriously think about taking the above to your local pet store or get a bigger tank minimum 3ft (exclude the bala sharks even in a 3ft.)

Simply gr8! Fish added immediately after the water's been added to the tank....told you guys I'm not the only person doing it and having no issues. Water chemicals/conditioners are over-rated IMO btw :D LOL

Anyway, everyone's correct here....I think what's your saving grace is the amount of live plants you have in the tank.
Downscale on the fish or get another tank (just don't blame us if you keep getting tanks :)). The plecos alone poop quite a lot. I, personally, would only keep the tetras in that tank

    Cheers

Thanks for the info you guys. I'm busy organising a three foot tank, should have it by next week - hold thumbs that the fish can hold on a bit longer. The filter is a cascade 400. I have no idea if it's the right one or not, got it with the tank. As i have said i'm new to this so i don't have a clue about filters, lights ect. Any advice will be truly appreciated.

As Jaguar said if you have any questions, any at all even if they sound stupid to you ask them anyway because any question could be a make or break question. :) and we don't mind answering, we love it!

Thankyou, it's great to know that you guys are prepared to help. I would hate for my ignorance to kill my fish. As soon as i get the three foot tank and have it set up i will post some photos. Thanks again.
