    Hi there

I was a lurker and occasional poster on another forum which has since died, and in looking for a new home I found TASA. This looks like a good place, I hope to find info and good people here (so far it's looking very likely).

I have just the one 3 foot freshwater tank, quite a few plants and after around a year it is looking quite good. Except - well the water went murky within the last couple of days, so as soon as that's sorted I'll put up a pic. The inhabitants are:

    5 serpae tetras
    a bunch of neons
    a bunch of glowlight neons
    4 coolie loaches
    2 clown loaches
    1 pleco
2 tuxedo fish - this is what they were sold to me as, I have not been able to find anything about them. I will post pics for ID in the right place in the next few days.

    We just got rain!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent welcome all! Yes, yes, I know you want pics, but do you really want to peer through the murk? Truthfully, I want to have as little wrong with it for nitpicking before posting, so give me a couple of days.

I forgot to add the two orange mollies to the list of fish, one is the sole surviving offspring of the other.

Welcome home - If the tank has been running for a year and has suddenly gone murky, what have you added, taken away, changed in the last few days ??????

Give us a chance, and info (input, input, input) and we will solve your problems :)

The murk is just an algal bloom, probably related to the big cleanup I did on Sunday. I pulled quite a lot of algae out from around the roots of plants and I think there is now some blooming in the water. I have it from time to time, and it usually sorts itself out as the filter gets through it, nothing to worry about to my mind.

But thanks for the responses all, this place really does look good!

Hiya Dung - If the murkiness is whitish then it is a bacterial bloom and settles in about 2 or 3 days as your biofiltration rebuilds the nitri and nitobacter colonies to equilibrium. - If it is a greenish bloom then it is an algae bloom which is another story altogether...

Zafgak, I reckon you are right. It was whitish murk and by this evening was gone. This happens relatively often after I clean the filter out, so your explanation makes sense.

I have posted a couple of tank pics in the Full Tank Shot gallery, and a few of the mystery fish in the ID gallery. Hope you enjoy!
