    Hi! Names Zahir, From Durban.Westville
Been keeping fish for many many years, Stopped for a while untill my younger bro came home with a little Red Siamese betta, then a larger commen pleco then a smaller commen pleco and some angel fish.
Felt really sorry seeing them in there tiny glass box that the petshop had sold him,so i had decided to restart my Old fish tank, its not that big but the filtration seems good, the fish seem really happy, If not tooo happy.
I Had no idea this forum existed! Im glad it does!

Currently have a Real mix up of fish in my two Aquariums,
partially because he keeps bringing new fish home!
Well the list is as follows,
    Angelfish 3
    Cory Catfish 7 (various)
    Swordtails 3
    PLattys 2
    Zebra Danio 12
    Common Pleco 2
    Blue Gourami 1
Siamese Fighting fish Male x 2
Various Rescued Goldfish and i think what seems to be 1 gold Koi.

The two plecos live on there own with the larger Angelfish in a 45 cm tank (not sure how many liters it holds)
The rest live in a 60cm tank 60 liters maybe?

Filtration on the smaller tank is by an external hang on the side filter,With 2x air stones.

Filtration on the Larger tank is by 1x external fluval 104 filter, Under gravel filter as well as a power head that seems to suck in everything floating around. Airstones as well as an air curtain at the back.

The betas live on there own separately in a sort of plastic box attached to the glass of the larger tank, im afraid of putting them in with the rest of the community.1 seems really peaceful the other overly aggressive, even towards me!

Both are heated at around 26 Degrees.

All fish seem to be growing really well and eating well.

I will post some pics up soon.

I hope to buy a larger tank soon to replace the smaller tank and transfer most of the fish to that larger tank but i do have a few problems that i hope you guys will be able to help me out with.
Mostly , water and fish compatibility.

I had tried my best to keep away from the fish bug but i guess its bitten me and my wallet once again ! Lol
    :smile1:

    Hello and Welcome to TASA

2 Betta Males (Siamese Fighting fish) should never be kept together for starters.

Some of the fish you listed require Different temp and won't live long in the same tank.

Just a few notes, most of the fish your are keeping now need tanks that is much bigger than the ones you have. I know your brother keeps bringing them along but you would need a tank at least twice as big as the 60cm ones to keep the fish happy.

The plecos can grow almost as big as your tank self and angels need a lot of swimming space.

Fish do not stay as small as the tank you put them in, that is old wifes tail.

Hope you like it here and stay long enough to get a biiiig tank etc.

    Best of luck.

hi! people!!! Thanks for the awesome Greetings!!

Iv had the tank running now since the 1st fish came in Feb and thay all seem to be doing well, With regards to outgrowing the tank, you are right. the 2 Goldfish and the 1st Angel fish have Doubled in size, as well as the Cory Catfish.
Most of the fish thankfully for now are under 3 Cm so i think i do have a little bit of time.
I will hopefully be getting a larger tank soon.
The Siamese Fighters live separatly, The Blue Crown Fighter is the one that lives in a plastic hang on the side of the tank box, Where as the Red Normal Fighter lives in his own Glass box tank.

The Pleco is what im really afraid of ,I did have one about 8 years ago that really grew large and fast, i had to return that one back to the pet shop .
These ones seem small now but i do know thay will get much larger.

I Will realy appreciate all the advice given to me, im really open minded when taking and asking for information.

    Hi Zippy,

    Welcome to the forum...

If you have 2 male betta's, can I suggest something... release the one betta into the smaller tank, and the other betta into the other tank. In my opionion, keeping them in those plastic containers borders on animal cruelty. You will be pleasantly surprized at how much "happier" they will appear as soon as they have a bigger surrounding. Pet shops sell them with small tanks because it makes a sale... and they look stunning, so it's an easy sale... THere are some countries around the world that actually BANS this type of selling of Betta's... I would tend to agree with them.

    Regards

    Z

hi Zoom! Thanks for the advice, I really want to release them into the main tank but im so afraid of them hurting the other fish or the other fish hurting them, And the crown tail looks so beautiful i dnt wanna see its fins torn and eaten up,Or it eating or nipping at one of my other smaller fish. Also , im told that the fish dont like a current, of which my tank has, Reason i have this powerhead in the tank is that it keeps the O2 levels high ( i see alot of tiny bubbles all over the tank) and keeps the tank clean and clear for some reason.
My Red betta seems really aggressive,He sometimes flares his Gills at me!
How would the other fish react to him? or how would he react to the other fish?

    Zippy,

a LOT of people have betta's in their community tanks. Sometimes the fish will fight a bit to set out the territory, but then things settle down. I have a betta male in my community tank. Logic says it cannot be done because I have Angels, Guppies, Corys, Anscistrus, Tetras... and they all say they incompatible.

On anther note... do some research on O2 in water. You will actually be rather shocked to hear that seeing bubbles in your water DOES NOT MEAN you have O2 in your water. rather, just a lot of useless bubbles. Do you know what surface tension of water is? This is basically a "tension" at the surface of the water... kinda like a cover of the water... this tension allow those funny insects to run on water. Well, the ONLY way O2 can dissolve into water is then the SURFACE TENSION is broken. This is done by water being poured back into the tank (like a water fall effect), or you shold lift your internal filter a little higher so that the surface of the water moves a lot. (Some of the better internal filters come with something called a spray bar, which is a bar with a lot of holes in. If you have this, rather use this, and put the bar above the surface of the water, and let the water "spray" back into the tank. This will give you dissolved O2 into the water.) Bubbles in the water is just that, usless bubbles, NOT dissolved O2.

    Hi Zoom!
Thanks for the tips, I could try it with the more docile Better this afternoon,
But the main tank has a current as well as a sort of waterfall effect ,the current coming from the pump thats inside the tank ,spraying those tiny bubbles and current, and the waterfall from the Fluval 104 external filter whos outlet is sort of attached to the side of the glass just above the water line,

Dont Siamese like still water? Will the movements in the tank stress him out?

You can only give it a try. My betta actually plays in my currents.

Mine did to it loved the current but when they get tierd they seek a spot more still but you should have a dead spot somewhere in the tank
