I'mm treading new waters at 67. Getting to my favourite fishing spots is becoming somewhat cumbersome. The alternative is to bring the fish into my home, and after some reading, I decided that starting with Guppies would be the way to go.
The intention is to eventually become involved in our indigenous minnows, and possible save some of them from becoming Trout and Bass food, and finding ways of saving them from the rapidly expanding areas of pollution. (As for permits, I'll try my luck with the authorities in Environmental Affairs)
Guppies being fairly cool water fish, easy to care for and not overly bothered by a slip or two would be, to my mind, an ideal intro into caring for an aquarium.
Whichever, I'mm not in it to quit!

Guppies are a good starter fish.

    Tx for the welcome Gentlemen!

Gerhard, coming from Ermelo you'll know all about POLLUTION. Incidentally, I started collecting minnows during the early 1950's in the Cyferfonteinspruit, just South of Trichardt, which is now the "Cyferfontein" opencast mine, feeding SASOL at Secunda. That's why I'm feeling very sentimental about our minnows.
