Hi, Just thought I would introduce myself. I got into all this about a year ago and since have started up a small 12G Boyu Marine (running for 5 months) and recently a 9G Planted Tank (3 weeks into its cycle) So hi all, hoping to learn a lot P.S I tried to post pics but the boards not allowing me. Bummer. Count 2. Here's some pics Here's the 9G. As per a recommendation from a friend, I have stopped the air and I will be putting a CO2 reactor together and pump in Carbon Dioxide instead. Livestock wise i'm looking at keeping about 6 Cardinals, 1 Algae Eater, 2 Apple Snails and a Siamese Fighter or a pair of Dwarf Ram Cichlids. Here's the marine. Its been cycling for nearly 5 months now and once I get back from Zanzibar I will be putting in another 2 clowns and some inverts
Welcme. If you are going to keep those plants I would get some ferts and good lights and not waste money on CO2
Hi Vis, I put in some fertilizer (cant remember which one tbh) before laying down the substrate and I supplement each water change with Tretra FloraPride. There's 48w of light, one 24w 8000k and the others a 24w 6800k. I took out the actinic. It's hard finding proper flora lights for the tank that dont cost an arm and a leg though. The CO2 is a DIY thing so it shouldnt cost too much hopefully
Fly, do yourself a favour and go and read my thread in the Members section.. http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?t=2254 It basically covered my tank from the start until where it is now. I went the DIY CO2 route. IT WAS A COMPLETE DISASTER!!
Thanks Vis. I personally think DIY CO2 almost always ends with a disaster. If it doesn't, it means you are not dosing enough. When you do dose enough, you discover your fertz is imbalanced, and your lights is pathetic. So I now advise against it.
Welcome Fly* Like the 9G ... I agree with Zoom - hang back on the CO2 for now. Keep us posted on the progress.
