    hi there,

i'm new to the forum and new to fishkeeping, from the southern suburbs in cape town.

i started 6 months ago on a 30L for my wife and two months later upgraded to a 100L (for myself)

now i'm planning an upgrade to a 250L very very soon :)

yes. i'm officially an addict now :)

    30L - small mixed malawis
100L - tinfoil barbs, bala sharks and a few mix fish.

no photo's yet, only have cellphone camera and that takes terrible photos :(

(believe me i've tried taking some decent pics of the tanks)

hope to be posting quite a bit soon!

    cheers!

    Welcome to TASA ^^,

How big are the malawis? Will they not outgrow the tank? Same with the bala sharks :)

You'll find a wealth of information here and many helpful, knowledgable members.

I'm glad you joined and the hobbybug has officially bit you :D

    Hi and welcome.

I agree with linxie, the bala sharks WILL out grow that tank. For the mix malawis im sure
they dont stay small, even for a dwarf thats a little to small.

    Hello and welcome.

If you as bad as half the people here on TASA, you will become an online junkie as well as a fish addict.

    hey guys!
sho! thanks for the really warm welcome from everyone and all the questions as well!

    lol
yes i am aware of the fact that the tanks are too small, that is the reason for the upgrade to 250L

the bala's and tinfoils will move to the 250L, the malawis will move to the 100L.

the 30L will probably become a possible hospital or quarantine tank if its ever needed.

that should buy me some time to get up to something much bigger at a later stage :)

unfortunately i made the same mistake that so many bigginers have (apparently) and not realised that many of those pretty little fishies in the LFS will grow to ten times the size you see them.

had i known that, our first tank would have been a 250L to begin with for sure. my wife is in agreement with me on that one!

as i said, i'm very new to this and learning as i go along.

LFS was not very helpful with info either. sold me 3 rainbow sharks with bala sharks, mollies and platties, an angelfish a pleco and a big gourami! even tho i asked if they would all be ok in one tank.

can you believe i had all those fish in a 30L????

    ignarance sucks i tell you.

at that point i knew nothing about the nitrogen cycle either :(

so i learned the hard way that that was a bad combination of fish, and too small a tank and i'm still learning.

all i can say is that for now i've learned how to get two tanks running and with no fish losses for the last few months, i've gotten together some combinations that work really well found out what fish can actually compliment each other and make for a peacefull and active tank.

i just need to get them to those bigger tanks befor they outgrow the current ones.

the malawis for sure are growing fast, the tinfoils as well! so i have to keep an eye on them and make sure they have good quality water consistently.

The fact that you learned something goes a long way already in this hobby.
Hope you get your big tank. Have a look around in the classifieds on the forum because there are some real bargains from time to time.
You will most likely never buy a tank from the LFS again after comparing prices.

not so sure to be honest, i've prowelled the junkmail and gumtree websites for a while now and even gone out to see a few of the tanks peeps are wanting to sell and you will be amazed at how much people are wanting for tanks and equipment that really are in terrible condition..

    so far disappointing.

at the same time i have to admit my own budget also has its restrictions lol

nonethless, it wont stop me checking these classifieds or junkmail or gumtree lol you never know what you might just stumble onto :)
