If you have a breeding pair of this in a very large tank with a lot of plants, how will you go about it to (1)remove this fish and (2) euthanase it without disturbing the other tankmates or uprooting or removing everything in the tank.:wondering:

    P.S.For arguments sake the tank could be 1.5(l) x 800(h) x 650(w)

I am going to get flack for what follows but this is just my point of view so please dont hold me to this...

Slojo this is where I have a problem, who are you doing a favour to for doing this... yes it is on the BL but were you aware if this when you bought it?

I would say rather get rid of the eggs before they hatch, and dont sell them and wait till they take thier own course in life, in my opinion.

In the UK if there are BL'ed animals found they go to someone whom they trust and who will do the "RIGHT" Thing...I think this should be adopted in SA as well,

NOW WAIT!!!! before I get jumped on by the other guys on the forum... there are anti cruilty org's around the world that will agree with. Why take the life of an animal due to idiotic Human error's...

PS can someone please help with a contact for someone to mention a LPS selling Black Salimanders...

I agree with Lizid on this one!

First of all, why would you want to euthenase it Jacques. Is the fish ill, or are you wanting to do this purely because it's BL?

My feeling is exactly the same as Lizid, it's not the fish's fault that it's BL, and I think we need to look at this from a humanity and animal cruelty perspective. Whilst I agree that euthenasia is the most humane way to terminate the fish, is it right? This is open for discussion and interpretation.
If however you choose to give the fish a healthy life, prevent the fish from breeding, and never sell it/breed it for resale purpose etc, then I personally would just do that... and shut up on the form about this fish.

    My opinion at least.

it really is BS to go and kill the fish for no good reason IMO,so long as you dont go and buy more or go and sell them to other people or heaven forbid let them loose in the jukskei river.let them live out the rest of their days in your tank but never speak of those which shall not be spoken of less you let it be known you have those which you should not speak of and have not :)

I dont think you should kill these fish just because they are BL, keep them, just dont breed and distribute them, i had such an awesome pair about 10 years ago.

Remember it is not the fish fault that it is in your tank, nevertheless take care of them but avoid them breeding unless you keeping the fry for yourself!

Agreed with all that is said here,BUT when they breed they display beautifull colours.......... and is very agressive.
The breed every 7 to 14 days, chasing my other inhabitants into a corner of the tank, stressing them out.
Oh and they love plants................in their diet.
Anyone interested........................to remove them from my tank?
