So I started my 1st tank recently and i was too impatient to do a fish-less cycle and now i seem to have too many unexplained deaths! How do i start over without having to wait until my initial mortality rate is up to 100%... ?

Dont start over otherwise the cycle will also start over. All you can do nou is wait is out untill all the good bacteria is settled. You can take the fish out and bored it at your lfs. Get some used filter media and put it in your filter to jumpstart the cycle a bit.

what fish are pegging? as i see that you have some tiger barbs in with some Guppies? if its the guppies, i can see that the tigers are giving them some #@#$$, but if its all of the fish, then ya, its in need of a good cycle

Do 25-30% water changed every day.
Get some MicrobeLife Special Blend from LPS and dose according to dosage instructions.

Then pop over to the beginner section of the forum and have a read through some of my articles on setting up and maintaining a tank.

Thanks for suggestions.... a friend of mine is housing his tank at mine atm... would it be more stressful for me to move my fish to his tank while mine cycles? Or should i just leave my fish be?

Firstly how long has your tank been up and running? Did you add all of the fish at once?

The Pleco and the Red tail blue botia will outgrow your tank in no time. I would guess that the Silver Gourami is a Moonlight Gourami, which will also grow too big for a 45cm tank. So take them back to the pet store as soon as possible. This will help to lighten the current organic load on your tank as well.

To start over do daily water changes. You might need big water changes at first to safe your fish. Get yourself some test kits (ammonia, nitrite and pH) to monitor your water. This is especially important when you set up a new aquarium. Then go read up on each species of fish you would like to keep. Look specifically at the size it will finally attain, food requirements, pH requirements and temperament. Never buy fish on impulse and do not blindly believe what the pet shop attendant tells you. Like Zoom said check out the sticky threads under Beginner Discussions. You will learn a lot here through other peoples experiences. The fact that you registered on the forum means you want to do things right and that is great to see. Definately want to congratulate you on that.

I would not mix your fish with your friends. The new fish you have bought might have some diseases that can infect your friends fish as well. It is also not clear if his tank is fully cycled with the move of the tank to your place and if it will be able to bear the extra organic load.
