I'm going to be honest, I'm not great at DIY set ups and prefer purchasing lights where it's a simple plug and play. I have 2 Boyu tanks with those built in light set ups. The one has a long cylindrical LED which I need to replace and the second tank has a T5 in the hood which is looking a bit dim and needs to improve.

How does one go about fixing this? As far as I understand, the long LED lights aren't readily available at fish shops. Any help would be much appreciated. The lighting would be used to grow low tech plants such as java fern, anubis's, vallis etc.

You can often order those lights from you LFS if you need replacements, but it will be the standard one again.

If you want stronger, I would say take the fixture out and take it to a lighting store and get them to match it as closely as possible with a shop cabinet light setup.

I have a 4ft Boyu, absolutely love it . What i did intially was get t5 led units . I used doubled sided tape to fasten this against the front flap (i put 2 on here) and 1 at the back flap . These units are very light and cheap think now it would be R160 per unit and they last . I am not running this anymore as I have put in 2 zetlights . I got the longest available unit . It just slides in ,it rests on the plastic center brace and is balanced by the units extendable brackets on the side . This works out well . Cost for this wasm R4k for new lights . Hope this helps .
