So I'm a little paranoid about my water... When I do water changes I always put it through a water filter (Instapure filter that fits to the tap), add it to the tank, and then add Seachem Neutral Regulator to condition. Now the thing is, I'm in the process of moving house (from Bergvliet to Rondebosch - tap water is the same) but the taps in my new apartment are very modern and wouldn't be able to fit the filter attachment. I thought about this for a while and came up with an idea: I want to set up a filter and hosing system where I attach the end of a rubber tube/hose to the tap - the hose is attached to a filter which is in turn attached to another hose. Water flows out the tap, through the filter, and into the aquarium. I've attached a graphical representation of my idea below~

Now my problem is this: I want the filter to work like a filter for drinking water - remove all the nasties (heavy metals, chorine, pesticides etc) that are normally found in tap water, but I'm not sure how to set this up or what I should use for the filter. Has anyone set up something like this before? Any ideas as to how I should set this thing up?

Does that happen instantly? All water purifiers I have seen kinda drip through.

Anyway, have you considered just changing a tap in the new place ?

    Hi Zeiphex,
You could consider buying a housing (image below) and the placing the appropriate cartridge inside (also below).
Here's a link if the pics are unclear. Depending on the casing you choose, most of them can be attached to a standard garden hose fitting

@Spath - It's a rented place so I don't think the landlord would be happy with that lol. The flow rate on all the ones I've used is quite good - not as strong as out of the regular tap, but still pretty decent.
@MZ89 - That was more or less what I was thinking - I just don't know a whole lot about this stuff. Would it be expensive?

The plastic housing units are priced according size. I saw a unit +/- 35 cm (height) at an irrigation shop without a cartridge/ fittings for R165-00.
The pricing of the filter cartridges depends on the specifications (carbon/ pore size/ brand etc).

@MZ98 - thanks again :) So, an irrigation shop is the best place to go? Or would a hardware store carry that kind of thing too. I see that you're in Cape Town as well - could you reccomend anywhere?

I'm not sure if the average hardware stocks these products. You can try some irrigation/ water shops. Also speak to the sponsors (The WaterZoo etc) as they should have the filter cartridges and housing units.
