    Hi everyone,

I wanted some advice on discus discolouration with the use of Tetra Bits. My 2 yellow diamonds have turned orange and my red-white melon has lost its white colouration. I am certain that this is from the use of Tetra bits. Does anyone know of any other pellet food for discus that will not result in this discolouration ? I also feed them Bloodworm and Daphnia. They are otherwise in excellent health.
    Please advise !

    Thanks, in advance.

    Hi @VRT!

    Welcome to my favourite forum!

I can't help you re your discus, as I've no relevant experience, but if you have a look under the forums you'll find a disease section. There's a sticky at the top... copy and paste the questionnaire, then fill in AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! I'm NOT suggesting your fish are ill, just the people who can help need MUCH more info to be able to assist you.

hth, and have a great TASA time!

    Hi VRT,

The red colour could be due to the Tetra Bits. Check if it says that there is Astaxanthin and Cathaxanthin added and this would be the reason why they would go red. It is not harmful, so it is ok. However, if you say that you only feed tetra bits, bloodworm and daphnia, you have a disaster waiting to happen, that diet is completely inadequate for discus. Have a look at the thread on discus feeding on my subforum.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,

    Many thanks for your reply.
I have read your article, very informative.
I am based in Durban and I have found it very difficult to get hold of good quality frozen discus food.
    Any suggestions ?

    Kind regards,

    VRT

    Hi VRT,

But then it appears that you do not know crucial people keeping discus in Durban. Gavin McCann has kept and bred discus for many years. I supply Gavin him with frozen foods which I import and he stays on the Bluff. I will pm his phone number to you and then you can contact him to get the necessary foods. He also breeds discus and you can perhaps get some advice and good quality discus from him as well.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
