    Hey guys

    Im new to this and only started my planted tank about a month ago.I know my lighting is not right and needs to be sorted out .The tank dimensions are 1800x600x600 it does'nt have the standard black canopy this one has 4 sections of glass, what form of lighting can i use thats not going to cost me an arm and a leg and how much do i need?

    Also im using a sugar and yeast mix at this stage to get co2 in my tank , ive heard about using sodastream bottels to do this , how does it work? and how much do i need?

    Any help on this will be appreciated

    Thanks
    S

    To maintain stable CO2 in a large tank don't try DIY, Excel will be too costly so you need pressurised Co2.. a beeg bottle, regulator, needle valve, bubble counter, diffuser and so on,
    so can end up being beeg bucks.

    Thanks trevor , I've been doing some shopping and i noticed that its going to be a big chunk of change , I'll have to start somewhere and start to compare prices at a couple of places. The DIY method while not great is doing ok for now and the plants i do have seems to be growing ( i know its still early days but untill i have the setup sorted it will have to do )

    What fish are you planning to keep? Cause as you said - DIY works at this stage (mainly because you see the bill when buying food and not fish stuff) but when you start pumping loads of CO2 to max plant growth then you need to be able to run a timer on the CO2 or a ph probe (solenoid valve and timer is cheaper). I would think that soda stream is more expensive in the long run but again - that could be seen as a food item bill and has nothing to do with keeping fish.

    ... SAGA CO2 Regulator (Dual-Gauge w/ Solenoid Valve & Needle-Valve) seems to be available - but typically you are look at 1.7k for the regulator + R800 for a LFS CO2 can + R500 misc items to make it work and that is a allot of sugar and yeast.

    :blink1::blink1:And your betterhalf won't notice:blink1::blink1:

    A midrange Sera CO2 kit will cost in the region of R2000.00 to R4000.00 depending on your area and the LFS.
