Hi all. Bought some new fish for my 4 ft planted tank.

All look fine, but one of the rummy nose tetras was acting weird. Swimming sideways and hanging upside down.

Now it is floating upside down.

    Water parameters all fine.

    I removed and quarantined him.

    Anyone know what's up?

I hope others will chime in also. Keep a close eye on him and your other fish. The sad truth is that, out of a group of tetras one or two might not make it every now and again despite parameters being good and no diseases. It might not mean serious trouble.

However, Seeing that you’re probably going to gradually stock your tank with a lot of fish, a quarantine tank might be a consideration... I learned the hard way :(

    Sadly the patient passed away.

The others are fine. Maybe it was an injury from being caught or the long drive to my home.

I have been doing daily 10% water changes since planting the tank.

I currently have a few guppies, 5 platties and the tetras. Oh, and 3 shrimps.

Will stock with a few fish every week.

But PLEASE remember - the golden rule ..... always quarantine new fish first before adding them to you existing tanks.
