I'll tell you what I would do - get a better looking filter, get that pipe out of the ware, and remove the filter.

Can you try take a pic without the flash so we can get a better look of it? (I mean lighting and how the tank actually looks)

Looks at pics on the internet. Google "aquascape" and start drooling. Don't buy rocks or fake ornaments. Go to a river or something and pick up some rocks. Just make sure it's not bricks or concrete or limestone (don't think limestone is good for the water hardness) You can buy driftwood or mopani at some LFS 's (mopani usually looks nicer). Soak them for a while (like 2 weeks) to get out some tannis and boiling them first can speed up the process.

For the arrangement - I SUGGEST (it's really up to you) to create some height with rocks and wood. just having a flat bed with stuff scattered around isn't always nice but you can make it good. Be sure to have some open space too for the fish to swim. Some fish like eels, some cichlids, etc. don't mind it if the tank is very bushy and full for they like hiding - but the Angels need some open space too.

Plants - if you have Java fern or Anubia, don't plant the rhizomes in the gravel. They do best tied to some wood with fish line or thin cotton string.

First get the parts you want and do some browsing on the internet to get ideas. Make some drawings if you can draw OK-ish.

When you change the tank and you do empty it and clean everything - remember the cycling for at least 2 weeks without fish. In that time you can also make sure that you are happy with your setup.

Collecting rocks near a river without the correct permits is illegal. Rather advise people to buy them from nursery's or lps.

It's a nice style you're going for but I think it can be harder than others. Getting it to look natural - I mean, not like the plants are planted there, but grows there naturally - is hard. I would advise you not to fill the tank completely so you can easily change the plants if you are not happy. If the fish are in you shouldn't mess around in there too much.

Picture quality is too poor to make any judgement or advise.

Take better pictures. Tips for good photos,

    Take pic at night
turn all lights off except for fish tank lights
    Turn flash on camera OFF

I can do things with that tank that would look brilliant to me and a few others and not at all to you.

Look for and decide what kind of style you like dutch, nature aquarium or one of the many other styles out there.

Once you have decided what you want we can help you.

We can help you go anywhere but where you want to go is up to you.

Hey @dylan woodhouse - Where are you based? Maybe someone in your area could come around and help you out?

EI is not a style, by the way. It is a fertilization regime that people follow to get maximum plant growth. Then there is Nature Aquarium. The object of Nature Aquarium is to create a natural aquascape, mimicking nature to create a fluid composition in a fish tank. The focus is on the scape and the plants, not necessarily the fish. The fish add to the whole natural feel of the tank.
