hey guys.i have decided to convert a tank into a planted tank (tank was originally meant for breeding pleco but decided to give them their own tank...now i have a problem...i am thinking of making a diy substrate to ensure good growth...can anyone provide me with a good recipe?nothing too hectic..things i can get from local nursery (probably stodels as its the nearest to my place).also...has anyone used earthworm castings in their substrate...found this on a forum...

    http://www.barrreport.com/co2-aquatic-plant-fertilization/4319-diy-substrate.html

seems promising..any idea where i can get that in cape town?

ALSO...anyone know where i can get t4 light bulbs at good price in cape town...i have a sakura t4 light fitting i want to modify to fit my tank...PLEASE help me out guys

    Ola dude

Search on the forum somewhere for substrate mixes....eskimo made some comments. I normally just use fine silica sand, nothing else as this works perfectly for me.

T4 lights at good price? Rather see if you can find T4 bulbs to start off with. I also have a sakura T4 light fitting and one side has gone, so I'm looking for a replacement tube. Do you know where I can find instead of having to place an order?

Crap....hope I didn't have to do that. I think I'll take my broken tube fitting to Nico and ask him to order a replacement for me
