I'm currently looking for lights in the blue spectrum... ranging from 20 000k to 50 000k

I'd prefer to get the 50 000k one though.

Does anyone know where I can get this?

All I see in the shops are "blue" lights... but I don't know what kind of blue they are. For all I know they could be emitting purple light LOL

Maybe someone here knows a bit more and can help ^^,

Ooooh if anyone is looking for 6500k lights, I've found that Osram makes them in CFL. It's called "G384 - Maxi spiral 85w Daylight"

Linxie what do you want to use the bulb for? I believe a bulb in that spectrum might cause some severe algae growth

    Yeah it'll promote algae growth.

From all that I've read over the past few days, I've come to the conclusion that there are two different light spectrums to which plants react. The red spectrum (daylight bulbs 6500k) and the blue spectrum (acintic 50000k or something like that)

As far as I know, these bulbs shouldn't be used on their own but together.

I had some good growth in the small tank using a daylight and a blue light together.

Do you think I should maybe re-read the lighting articles?

I'd ask on the plant forum, but there's more activity here :D

That 85w CFL is HUGE, Its meant for greenhouse applications.

Daylight tubes aren't completely red. The peak in the red spectrum but overall they look yellow

Thanks Neil... haven't seen the bulb so don't know how big it is :D

Yeah, what we see and what the spectrum is are two different things. Kinda sucks when you're looking for the right light as most of the time, these lights have no information on them.

Actinic bulbs are purplish in colour but come out very blue.

If you looking for an ok combo, get the normal daylight/6500k tubes with Sylvania Gro-lux. They are pink in colour and it balances the yellowish of the 6500k out.

Another option is Osram Skywhite ~8800k. Very white compared to 6500k

I agree, have a gro-lux combined with a white. looks great. even just the glo-lux switched on looks good.. shouldn't get freaked out cause a light looks purple or some weird color I think
