    Hi to you all.

I am a newbie and have had my AquaH20 tank (50x30x30) for just under a year now.
In the first 6 months I have attempted and failed :)sick:) to keep an number of tropical species alive for long!
The last species I settled on was a tiger Oscar (you guessed it, he's called Oscar) that I have grown very attached to.

He'll soon be ready to progress to a larger tank and I came across this forum while searching for tank options.

    That's it for now.
From what I've seen I am definitely at the right place for advice and will post a thread in the correct forum soon.

    Regards
    Bradley

Hi Brad. What type of Oscar is it? And what size tank you thinking of building? Reason i am asking is that when i joined this site i also had oscars well still have them and kept them in a 3foot tank and that is way to small. An oscar should be kept in a tank no smaller than a 6footer in my opinien (to give enough space and to give better control of water and wast management). Of course if i am wrong please correct me. Hope all the best with the future tank.

I am partial to a 3 footer for now. Anything larger is a bit intimidating!
The tank size (and my budget) will grow with Oscar.

    Need advice on:
    1. Junkmail/Gumtree route or purchase new?
    2. Get Oscar a tank mate now or let him grow some more first?

My current tank is an AquaH2O (50x33x34). I like the curved edges but a few TASA forum threads have made me hesitate on this brand. The wooden cabinet-type leads the pack thus far. I'm also leaning towards a canister rather the a sump.

All advice or direction would be appreciated.

i think if you're looking for a tank mate, buy while he's still small, so they can grow together, otherwise you'll find it harder to get a suitable sized mate the bigger he gets

I have found when introducing a new fish in with Oscars it is much easier to take all the fish out the tank and put them into a big container then move the ornaments and rocks around and the add the new fish first and give it a good 20min to settle and the add the older fish that why I have had no problems with fighting or bulling
