    Hello all
My name is Lushen Chetty. I'm from Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal and im new to this forum. I have been keeping and breeding fish since i was 13 years old and have never looked back as i enjoy the hobby and the challenges that come with breeding.
My current setup is as follows
-1 x 4 foot with 1 breeding pair of Red Tiger Oscars which i recently bought to try and breed, with a 300 watt heater, 40 cm thin long airstone running of a heto twin air pump, a Resun powerhead internal filter with single canister doing 1000l/h, i got seasand as my substrate and 7 rocks and 3 pieces of driftwood, 1 x 2 foot 18w tube with a cheapy unit which i want to change to 2 x 3 foot with spectra units
    -1 x 3 foot with Angels, + Bronze, Peppered & Albino Corydoras, with a 300 watt heater, 1 x AquaClear 200(200l/h) & 1 x AquaClear 150(150l/h) and seasand as my substrate with a few rocks, 1 x 2 foot 18w tube with spectra unit
-2 x 2 foot each with a pair of Purple Kribensis which i recently bought and 1 pair is already in the cave, i used a cave i bought from the petshop in one and a flowerpot turned upside down with a hole made in the side(took a lot of effort to make a decent hole), each with 200 watt heaters and each with Resun SP 900L internal adjustable powerhead filters which do 300l/h and seasand as my substrate, no lighting at current but want to add some soon
1 x 2 foot with guppies and swordtails (at my girlfriends house) with 200 watt heater, double bio sponge filter running of a heto twin airpump(which i want to change), lots of rock and java moss as a result lots of babies in tank, internal lighting unit with ballast running an 8 watt tube, and seasand as substrate
2 bays of tanks which i recently got from a petshop and need to start working on them, each bay holds 12 tanks(total of 24) which are laid out 4 across and 3 down on square tubing metal stand, the tanks measure 460(L) x 460(W) x 310(H) at front and 410(H) at sides and back, i intend to use this setup to raise fry, all ballast are in place, i even got all 100 watt heaters but will change them to 300 watt in the future, but need to think about filtration setup whether i want to go with individual internal powerheads or single sponge biofilters in each tank running of a big blower pump, a lot of work is needed in sanding, primering and painting the stands + cleaning and putting new polystyrene as well as testing tanks for leaks before i start using this setup, but wish to have it setup and running before the end of 2010.
Also got a 1000 litre container outside which i filled with about 200 litres of water and put some rocks and java moss with guppies to breed as feeders for my oscars.
Anyway thats all about me, would like to hear from other people in the pietermaritzburg and durban areas who are also breeding and keeping fish.
Will also update you guys with any success that i have with my breeding.
Bye for now and God Bless

welcome fellow durbanite.... how do you prepare you sea sand for use in your aquarium. Surely it bumps up your PH?

I've always considered using it but havnt given it a try yet

i get seasand from reunion or isipingo beach whenever i go fishing and i bring it home and just give it a good rinse through a fine mesh fish net and put it into the tank, you will notice some foam build up in a newly set up tank but it goes away in a few days and cichlids love it cos its easier to move than gravel

Welcome Lushen1600. I've got Albino oscars, but I'm on the hunt for a male as I have two females.
