these are simply older neons that the farm has kept back... buy normal neons and feed them... then they will get to that size as well

yep, that is what i was planning on doing, i found a place today that sells neons at 4rand each, but they're possibly a few mm smaller than Moolis's, what i wondered was, the colours were very 'slight'
the red and blue were a bit faded, dunno if its cause they're still young or not fed right.
When i was there, the bags JUST came in, seems i got there on 'new stock day'
some very nice, and probably well priced fish. (probably cause there's probably always somewhere that has better prices than the last place you visit)

Think i'll still rather go for Moolis's fish, Just 1rand more, but their colour is nice and at least they look healthy and well cared for

Their colour was probably a little dull due to stress - especially if they had just come in. Once in a tank the colour should come right out.

since i have removed the filterwool with the extra food in, i took my glass scrubber and scraped away what i could find, ruffled the leafes on my plants and left it be.

The fluffy white stuff came back the next day, only VERY slightly, and now seems that whatever it is is dying/shriveling

    thanks for the info vee.

Okay, update, i thought there's just some dusty particles floating around the tank, but it seems the front glass, probably everywhere, and plants are covered in the stuff again. but this time teeeeeeny tiny teeeeeenyier. imagine you neglected to clean your desk for two weeks, that fine layer of dust, thats what every surface looks like, i also sak, in some crevices on the mopani, there's some, what looks like slimey white mif, very small amounts, growing.

Thinking of doing a 50 or more% water change tomorrow. anyone care to chip in with an idea?

ps... a photo at this stage will do squat, if i say picture a slightly dusty desk, thats the best description i can give

i'm thinking of taking everything inside out, and pouring boiled water over it, (rocks and wood) and brushing the wood to get those little mif stuff out of those few crevices, and then removing the plants and maybe running luke warm water over them, or should i submerge them in something? salt water or such for a bit?

Then doing a vicous gravel vac, just to stirr up whatever little particles wanna come loose?
then topping up again after i've wiped down the glass with clean cloth or my scrubber thing...
this will probably bugger my cycling? i dunno, i just dont think whatever is "wrong" with the interior is healthy?

(btw, i did some snipping, and rescaped the snipps a bit, my blacklist plants grow freakin fast, probably why its a problem, well, everything cept the little round-leaved plant twig, its very slow)

I would leave it for two or three more days - It sounds like you have a bacterial bloom, and it will settle..

A bacterial bloom is when the bacteria (the ones you want as well) multiply out of control - they get so thick they cloud the water - Then over a few days they die off and settle down to the right amount for the bioload in the tank - sometimes happens when you add a lot of fish at one time....

    interesting thing today:
we had a short power outage, and when power came back on, filters started up again, alls well

Whats weird though, is that the whatevers came back again, front glass, side glass, etc, also, my water is once more a bit cloudy, now i'm wondering if the system could actually have crashed? like a mini cycle going on or what

When the power was out, the hob's drained, and the media went dry for about 10min or so, then i read Vee's posts on power outages, and got the inserts drifting in the tank to keep the media wet, dunno if adverse effects could actually arise from 45min of power out?

maybe the dirty stuff in the media was just reintroduced to the tank and filtering will resume as normal with a few hours, dunno

But its weird that suddently the stuff on the glass has returned...
