    Hi all,

About a week ago or so, I noticed an open wound on one of my harlequins, situated right next to the gills on one side. I've been treating it with Bio-elite heal-all, not sure what else I should be doing. I've tried reading up a bit, but can't really find anything pertinent.

I have a very cocky little dwarf gourami - I wouldn't be surprised if he took a bite... :push:

But my biggest concern is that it could be a disease, although I do wonder. It literally appeared overnight - What I need to know is: can a disease develop so quickly?

The wound hasn't grown any more, but it's also not gone away. Do I just keep treating the water with slime coat treatment?

Madam - if you have a spare small tank (More MTS) take the fish out put it in the spare small tank - add a little salt (depends on size of tank) and waterchange each day for 3 days

Gourami's can be aggressive towards other fish especially to smaller fish

Just to clarify, that is aquarium salt and not Iiosied salt (Table salt) which is bad for fishies

I've heard conflicting stories about adding salt to an aquarium, not sure I'd want to add it into my community tank. If I ever get a small quarantine tank, I might consider it in the future, because at least you can empty that out after the quarantine and start with new water.

But for now, I think I will assume that my harlequin has been bitten, and keep an eye on it. Perhaps I'll keep up with the slime-coat at least for a while...

I don't know why every article I've ever read states that dwarf gourami's are tranquil and timid fish... What bull!!!

Dwarf Gourami's are normally not that aggressive towards other fish but that is like saying all clown knife fish are peaceful no aggressive fish (no always the case). As far as my knowledge goes it is safe to put in salt in to a tank as long as there are no plants because the salt will kill off the plants. I would suggest that you just do a few water changes a week till the wound goes away, like Zafgak said 3 times a week should be fine

Some fish are sensitive to salt......always make sure that all the fish in your aquarium are not sensitive to salt before adding any. Scaleless fish especially.
