Received a VERY welcome belated birthday present today!

On cloud 9, but at a complete loss as to where to put it - and come to think of it, how my arms will reach down to the bottom to decorate! (or it would have been done already!)

It's very deep and I'm not sure how much water it holds, online calculations ranges between 98 liters and 100 and something. Was apparently sold as a 120 liter. Guess I will have to start filling up to know!

    Length 61
    Height 48
    Width 31

(rims excluded to try and calculate actual volume)

Now for the big question - any suggestions as to what I can stock it with?

    You going planted or normal?

I think the smaller fish like neon’s, corrys, silver tips, white coulds, sepia terta and so forth. Would look killer in this with some of the bigger plants.

Is that white pebbles in there?

Congrats dude. I’m sure this will be the end of you struggles.

    And remember take it slow.

    @DerikPelser

Lol! I will definitely go slow on this one!

I'm going planted but not as far as Co2 and all that - someone mentioned that plants need that and showed me these canisters that looks like something I'm likely to cause to explode! It get's way too technical for me and the plants in my 30 liter seems to do pretty well without it.

Unfortunately not white pebbles, would love those but haven't been able to find at the lfs. Picture below. I'm a bit worried if my pleco and corys would like that. I'm going pebble hunting this weekend at the Nurseries in the area. I'm terrible at envisioning things and will probably end up with enough stock to do another 10 tanks and open my own shop before it ends up looking the way I like! Fickle female syndrome.

Luckily this time round I know that I can just superglue everything together!

Nice @Dinky. This is a bit bigger so you can do nice things with this.

Can I give you a suggestion  rather get some pool filter sand for this tank. These bigger pebble type gravel is not good for proper plant growth as it does give a good surface for the plant roots.

They tend to struggle rooting properly. I get awesome growth with my pool filter sand.

You can plants some nice background plants at the back and side and then you can have smaller mid ground and foreground plants.

Hope you will be adding some nice fish in this tank. The pool filter sand is also much better for your corries and plecos.

HTH and please ask and ask more questions.

weird looking tank. didnt read much but what lights is on that tank. how many tubes in it and is it t5 or t8. looks like the lights animal kingdom sells. the tank is unfortunately too small for plecos in my opinion. i have some seachem flourite you can use for substrate if you want.

@hviviers75 - Wow! Had a look at tanks with the filter sand in and it looks beautiful. Much more natural!

What would be good mid ground and foreground plants? My knowledge at this stage stretches from anubias nana to java fern and then comes to an abrupt halt. The lps do not know the names of the plants they are selling or how big they get....ended up buying a dracaena from them and then learned it's the same as my bathroom plants! :cheesy:

@Ryno - Animal Kingdom indeed. :notrust:

It's different but I like the look. As for being functional and practical I will have to reserve my opinion till a later stage. At this stage I'm still pondering how to reach the bottom!

It says the following on the globe - FSL
    YDW36-H-RR
    36W/865 10IV

Has two switches and a double tube.

Yeah it does look more natural, if you can get the free seachem flourite from Ryno then go for that rather that is even beter.

Think you could get some lekker fast growers. Dorry pets sell hygrophila polysperma it is a nice fast grower and then some vallis for the back and you can get some more Anubias and java ferns.

See what else they got at Dorry pets.

    @hviviers75

I will definitely visit them. Had fun there watching them glue my plants to the wood and seeing the actual tank after watching the setup video was amazing.

I phoned the store the tank was bought from this morning and inquired about the fact that the tank was sold as a 120l but turns out to be way less. I got a speech about the difference between top up volume and actual volume...

Nice hey yeah go visit them. Yeah they will always have issues and excuses, even if you fill it to the rim it still wont take 120 liters. Nice tank anyway enjoy it.

Thank you! Think everyone on this side had had enough of me and my dying fish! Lol!

I'm dying to start setting it up, but will first drive round to all the stores to decide what I want to do with it. Then it's getting electricity to a point where I've got space for it.....

Long term project but I'm looking forward to it. Found a beautiful piece of wood this morning. Sadly not pre-soaked.

I'll take this one step at a time.
