So this weekend I placed these two together:

    The male:

    The female:

The male built a huge nest, female was released on Monday morning and by yesterday afternoon there was eggs in the nest.

This male didn't want to nest since I had him (about 3 months or so) coaxed him into nesting by adding rooibos to the water and feeding bloodworm every other day.

This morning his nest isn't looking too good. Eggs are floating on the water without any bubbles. Hope he starts bubbling again as this would make an awesome spawn, even if I can just get a few fry out of this batch.

    Update:

This male seems to be useless at nesting...

He went from a full cup nest full of eggs to no nest in one day and hatching babies. Also his parenting skill isn't that great there is a lot of eggs at the bottom of the tank and he seems to have a disregard to those. I have seen a few newly hatched babies, he is attending to those but not that well either, once they drop he picks them up and spits them back out at the cup but there is no nest for the fry to stay in, so they just drop again in a few minutes time.

I want to help the fry but on the other hand I know when I interfere that will have an effect on the parenting skills of the fry themselves. I thought I could place a breeding trap in the breeding tank and lift it so there would be shallow water, so even if they do drop they are relatively close to the water surface..
Maybe I should just give it a go with 5 or so fry. This will also maybe test my theory of the parenting skills and raising them artificially.

    Any ideas?

Just recovered from a 13 hour power cut....

    Bastards stole cables again....

More and more babies becoming swimming, caught a few that is away from the cup. These will be my responsibility. They are placed in a breeding trap with shallow water in.
The ones that fell under the cup, dad can look after them.

    Update:

Dad was removed a lot more fry survived than I thought would have.. Counted about 150 fry. They are currently on Liquifry no 1 and micro worms. Very excited to raise this spawn.

    Fry's are doing great.
Massive amount of fry made it and this was a very successful spawn despite the rocky start.

Fry is also very healthy and growing rapidly.

I will post pics once they start to show coloration, then they are something to look at.

Right now they still look like guppy fry lol and we all know how that looks haha
