Was just keen to get some feed back and thoughts on this Hagen kit ? I had originally planned to go the DIY route and had bought some T5 water proof end caps and dual T5 54W transformers and had ideas of mounting these relatively heavy transformers not in the canopy but below in the cabinet, where they would not get damp. However this Hagen kit is now on the market and waterproof - so I am wondering if I should rather go this option, be it it more costly. Any suggestions would be welcome ?

Yip, I have the Glo T5 Dual 54watt ballast! Its fine for my use!

The switch on the ballast has a cover to help stop water getting in, but I'd say its more splashproof rather than waterproof.... I certainly wouldn't drop it in the water to find out!

Had no issues, but it was expensive!

    Cheers

Thanks folks, will probably go with Hagen Glo option then instead of going the DIY T5 ballast route. Only problem is the Hagen supplied leads to the end caps are just 1,5m long, so on a 1.8 meter tank you basically have to mount the ballast in the canopy and close to the middle or perhaps design something so the ballast hangs on a mount just over the back edge of the tank. Ideally I wanted to mount the ballasts away from the water in the cabinet below, but also understand that there is a maximum distance involved from ballast to lights. I would be reluctant to cut and extend these end cap leads, but happy to do this to the power lead.

I see in the box leaflet instructions, that this water/splash proof looking ballast casing should not get moist or be anywhere near the water, so presumably this should only be mounted outside of the canopy.. ?
