Hagen AquaClear power filter

My uncle bought one many moons ago. It served him well till it was passed on to me. Its probably more than 10 years old now and it still runs fine. Its quiet once you get the filter primed, and the waterfall isnt that forceful or loud at all, but fish like swimming down the small current. I.m thinking of buying a bigger one if i can find a supplier. Anyone know where they might be sold. ? How do they compare to pennplax cascades?

 

I got 2 auqaclears, swear by them.

 

Mine is stok-oud and still works great, even though i lost the lid. i wanted to buy a new one today, the shop said they dont stock them, the rep never bothers to come around, darn... where'd you get yours?

I guess i'll be using the one i have on my tank aswell, just for the fact that i can pack and choose my own filter medium, as i bought a pennplax today, but that insert filter looks a bit like its gonna be a problem in time..

 

These filters are definately worth the money..my aquaclear 300 impeller gave in..after TEN years of continuous running..now i must look for an impeller..can any1 help me out

 

They available everywhere in Cape Town, not sure about JHB.

 

i'd also like to hear if someone knows where to find these and their parts? (the LFS i went to today said their still on the market in SA, but didnt know who stocked them)

sigh... capetown and jhb always have everything... pretoria sucks... i'm not even fully into the hobby yet and already i'm disliking my area...

the only thing i find bothers me about this filter is how pricey it is.

Moolis-hulle said they stopped stocking it cause the prices climbed so high. They had one unit left sold a week ago, they still stock the inserts whick are affordable though.

Pet a Pond in lynnwood or there somewhere also have one random unit on the shelves, old box by the look of it, but its like 600 rand or somesuch, they also only stock the inserts... sigh, why cant we get these units at a fair price? whats hagen's problem? anyone seen these units at affordable prices anywhere?

 

Which specific size are you looking for?

 

something that can run on a 180 liter, or one that can run on 60liter

i can get the inserts round here at about 20 rand or less, its the filter thats so elusive

Hey guys,new to the forums here,very nice site,lots of great reading. I've got aquaclear 500's x 2 in my 6 foot tank for the last 5-7 yrs with no issues at all....aquaclear mini in my 3 ft, about 6 yr old(filter)and i swear by them.
Exclusive pets in centurion is a good place to check out for parts,inserts. Sandton aquatics comes to mind also. Happy fish keeping.

 

Yeah these things are plentiful in Cape Town, actually they are pretty much all you get in the HOB variety.

Find it really odd that you guys struggle to get them up there.

 

yeah, apparently the shops told me that they price way too high, dunno if "up here" should accompany the sentence.?

the only filter stock we find here are all in dusty torn boxes pricing from 400-700+, and then we're talking about old, and small stock.... the inserts are abundant though...
