I have a 6yr old daughter, and I am well equipped to answer this question. Flicker is a horse.

Come on people, stop playing around. He asked for help, not jokes.

Could be an internal parasite that's being killed by the salt but the cysts hatch after a while.

    Just my 2c

Hi @zaahier... When fish "flick" - turns sideways and scrapes their bodies or esp. their opperculum/gill covers on rocks or your substrate,it is usualy a sign of a parasitical problem..sometimes due to a nitrite spike...

However,i notice that you live in CT,so your natural pH of your water is quite low - to low a pH could make them exhibit such behaviour as well...Do you augment the pH of your tank with things like sandstone, shells or crushed coral sand? Aim for a pH around 8 and keep your salt level round 3kg/1000liters - this will mimic the Lakes natural conditions... If you do and your test readings says your nitrite levels are o.k,then we may safely asume that the problem is parasitical...

Would be a good idea to maybe catch a fish(especialy if you have any wildcaught Malawi's) out and take it to a REPUTABLE koi dealer(PM me - know a couple in CT) and have them check the fish out under a microscope to identify the parasite... Too much hassle? Pick up a bottle of Parazin D by Waterlife from your LFS and dose them with this...

G'luck and let us know how it turned out...

Im just thinking here. if i think how a flickering fish looks like is see a fish in breeding behaviour. You know that short bursts of shaking.

TM - It could be a host of things... therefor better to have the specific parasite identified and treated acordingly...

If it is Flukes(skin or body) - a mebendazol based treatment should do the trick....

@zaahier - any koi shop will stock it - while you there, take a fish along to have the correct parasite identified... Problem with parasites these days vs 30 years ago is that they have grown SO resistant to treatments that you have to basicly treat each one in a different way
Us koi guys have lots of experince with this...so find a good one and get a fish to them - they can also run the test for you for a small fee...

No not like that imagine the fish swimming and his fins flicker at a fast rate then once done with that he would. Flee down the substate srapping his sides and doing it against rock not a breeding flicker at all!
