Take the plants out the pots.

I'm not familiar with those plants. I'm sure someone else wil tell you how to plant them. In the mean time just put them into the gravel

Did you rinse the gravel when you bought it??? It will clear itself eventually.

If i want to use ro water, is there anything i should add to the water or is it fine to use it just like that?
Rinsed some of the gravel but not everything. Will wait for it to clean itself.
Is there something like to much filtration? Can i use both canister filters (ex600 and ex1200) or should i only use the ex1200?

    Hi Michelle

There is no need to change anything with the RO water. RO water is a system of water purification where the water is pushed through a membrane at high pressures. In this process, Almost all of the contaminates are removed. Before the water goes through the membrane, it goes through some pre-filtering through carbon to remove chlorine. So it is basically fine just like that.

    Regards
    Peter

Ok.. if you didn't rinse the gravel properly, you will have the cloudy problem for a while. And everytime you do a water change you will land up with cloudy water. There is no short cuts in fish keeping.

There is also absolutely NO need to use RO water in a tropical set up... unless you are using borehole water, or your tap water is extremely hard. Our tap water in SA is usually TOO SOFT.

    Hi guys,

here's some more pics of my tank. Got some neons and pink glolights and lots of plants. The water is much more clear now. Do you guys use t5 lights on the tanks or just a normal florescent light you use in a house?

Globes need to be rated for what you want them to do.

Grow plants... you need lights to grow plants.
Just for viewing... you can use anything.

Use the wrong globe and you can land up with algae problems

T5's (of the right spectrum) is ideal.

And I also ask what Troyfish asked... 2 days of cycling and fish in already???

I set up the tank on monday and put in sera bionitrivec to help on the cycle. The bottle says you can put in fish within 24 hrs. I put in fish on thursday (96 hrs) after i put in the stuff. My fish looks very good and no side effects so far. (i'm sorry - couldn't wait any longer!)

Only problem with Sera Nitrivec is it should be stored at certain temps to remail viable and effective... No petshop or transport supplier Ive heard of actually complies with the specifics of keeping the bacteria liquid in correct temps so you never really know how effective your cycle was unless you do the waiting and testing, but anyway, no use playing violin sagas over whats done, congratulations on your new setup, hope it comes along nicely planted

    Hi Michelle,

T8 or the normal slimline tubes we use in the house is fine.
The reason people uses T5 is because they can fit more of them under the hood.
Get a good spectrum tube (5500 - 6500K) or even a combination of cool/warm white tubes.
As far as I know, guppies like a PH above 7 so i wont recoment using RO water for your tank. Fish will die if you use only RO with no additives because the reverse osmoses proses strips the water of all vital minerals needed by them and also the plants. RO is also not "Green" as it wastes about 5 times the amount of water it produce.
