Guppies love algae?

Today I started a new experiment ...
In my outside tanks (three tanks all connected so the flow is shared) two have no algae and the third tank (top) only has Danios in it and loads of algae ... all sorts.

So today I added 30 ++ guppies to the top tank. Immediately the guppies started pick at the algae - on the glass, plants, wood and substrate.

Obviously water quality is not the reason why the top tank has algae and the other two do not. Could it be that guppies are actually good algae eaters?

 

i see those you gave me kissin everything in my tank, first thing the did when added, was to start picking at the wood, which i know may have had a tiny bit of algae traces on, (i dont really get any algae, but what i do get dissapears fast)

 

A lot of livebearers eat algae- not just guppies. Thay won't do such a nice job like your plec or CAE, but they'll handle the occasional overgrowth.

 

lol, i did my -no feeding day- and came home to find all the roots of my penny wort had been trimmed, either the platies were real hungry or the guppies pitched in...

 

my platies also do i realy nice job on removing algae from my swords leaves and that white fluffy stuff
