    Ola everyone

Through the weeks/months ive been trawling this forum I have seen some epic prices on various mosses and plants.

Is anyone here not growing plants emersed or via aquaponics?

Propagating Christmas Moss, Taiwan Moss, Willow Moss and Flame moss is easy on some growing media as well as growing plants like Glosso etc.
Fissidens is a bit harder as its completely aquatic but there are ways and means.

Some good links to take inspiration from:

@HeinrichvH: Yes moss is a bit expensive, but once you buy some and it starts growing you can split it up I had a small batch of spikey and flame moss now I have more than enough. I even have some growing in my filter.

I dont mind paying for moss or plants (of course i love freebies, who doesnt, but do not expect them). But it is expensive to drive all over in search of moss, phoning doesnt help as you get told they have some yet there is none when you get there, and the sponsors etc do not advertisecwhat they have in stock generally (apart from the notable exceptions). How do those of us out of the area ever find out what is actually in the distant shops?

No offence but the prices in SA are MAD when you take into consideration your salaries. For me, spending £4 on a moss square is change in my pocket.

I started with about 2x2cm of fissidens and now have two pieces of wood full of it. With the SA sunshine growing your own moss is a real possibility.

@FancyShrimp: Well if you consider the Rand Pound exchange rare which is currently sitting at almost R18 for a pound. Your 4 pounds converts to R 80 which is what we pay for our moss.

What I dont think you understand is that my expendable income is WAY more than yours in terms of percentage. For me £4 is change in my pocket, for you R80 is a percentage of your income.

@FancyShrimp: You assume my expendable income is more than mine ;) R 80 for moss is not much considering how much you can spend on this hobby. But I have a limit on what I am willing too pay for plants tough.

You wont get it unless you stay here m8. I just know I would also limit my spend on anything if I was still in SA. If this aint for you then please refrain from commenting as Im trying to help those who would like more moss at less cost.

@FancyShrimp this is a public forum m8. So I think am allowed to make comments and observations when something gets posted ;) And moss is pretty affordable here at the moment the problem is the demand is outstripping the supply. Hence people have issues finding it locally. Hence I share and give away whatever surplus of moss I have after trims to people.
