    Hi all

    Does anyone know the cause?

Have done water changes, reduced the lights only for plants to die yet stays this way and is getting worse.

This is a pic from looking from the side to the top of the tank

Hey Troyfish, have you done a blackout on your tank yet?

If I remember correctly it's from algae floating freely in the water - this algae will turn your water a tinge of green.

Linxie is right - a blackout on your tank will definitely help with this situation. However, I'd try and look for a cause as well. Perhaps you're overfeeding? Overstocked? Filter not working efficiently?

I think its to much light and nutrients that cause it. Might be wrong.
Though once you have it a blackout is the way to go.

Its usually a algae called chlorella. If you turn on your light its closer to the ligts
Then your plants and also block the light from your plants. It grows like crazy.

Have a sample from NW uni in a small bottle and when I got it, it was a very light
green. Within only a few days it was dark green and starting to settle on the bottom.
The bottle was left in the shade and not even direct sunlight.

WC won't help at all. I've had this before.

4 day MINIMUM COMPLETE blackout. Ideally 5 if you can. (Fish will survive, I promise). If you can get a small uv sterilizer, you can put one on.

Yup, definately get a UV steriliser! I've got one on my tank, and you can go have a look at the pictures in my album. Crystal clear water 24/7! Does you tank get a lot of sunlight?

Alright all lights are off. Will leave it for a few days...poor plants!

@SHiBBY thanks for PM, the tank doesn't get much sun at all. All the glass is algae free expect the top water line.

Thanks for the info guys. Had to just quickly read through everything very busy this morning.

I do not see any benefit to having a UV on 24/7. Only when needed.

Not good enough Troy. blackout meand COMPLETE BLACKOUT. The inside of the tank must be PITCH BLACK for 4-5 days. Blankets buddy. Cover with blankets.

Hi TroyFish... good to hear things are coming right.

Don't forget to do water changes in between. This helps a lot when battling green water.

    Good luck :)
