Ok so lately I have seen a few mentions of green waterbhere and on the web. Usually I heard people trying to get rid of it but now I have been reading about people using it to improve the health of their fish. First of I have a tank that receives a lot of sunlight the glass has a lot of green on it but no green water, I have some plants in it so that should I miss a female give birth some fry will survive by hiding,

I'm seriously considering making my fry tank a green water tank but I would love to hear what would be the best way to achieve this. I have lost all my fry lately after a castrophy of a wc and a severe bacterial bloom. I lost around 60 fry and I'm considering doing things a bit different since I read that green water naturally keeps nitrates and nitrites low.

Would love to hear what you people think about green water good and bad.

@f-fish very interesting thread. I love experiments. Maybe I can do my own experiments and log them on this forum. Will have to see. I can get greenwater (pea soup quality) from a friend of my dad. He has koi and his forever struggling with green water. Something he has mentioned that isvof interest is that the green water clears a bit during the winter to the point were you can see the koi fish.

I got green water yay. It's not pea soup yet but we are getting there. Added some fertz to the tank, removed the mechanical filtration only biological filtration present and walla green water after a few weeks. I have had my water tested and nitrates seems to have either stabilized or coming up extremely slowly

This is what green water looks like, and in a display tank is not the thing you want.

Yeah a display tank doesn't look well in that amount of green but if it's a fry tank it can work pretty well for me. Sometimes benefits are more important than looks. My fry tank is pretty close to that
