    Hi All,

I purchased two green terrors about 2 weeks ago, not the original green terror, but cross bred, anyways, i ended up with a male and female, lucky me, i guess...but the male has been chasing the female around the tank, and her original pattern see attached, has changed to black stripes with the original black blotch...any reason why this has happened? also, her stripes get darker and lighter whenever the male is around or during feeding...the attachment is not my fish, just got the picture of the web so your'll can see the original pattern...

oh yes, i forgot to mention that they have tried mating, kissing and the likes, but no eggs have been laid, but since the initial attempt at mating, it doesn't look like the female wants to do this anymore, i think she is a tease, lol...seriously,any thoughts on the matter...

I might be wrong in which case I hope I am wrong but normally the male becomes brighter when it is breeding time and the female as well.

You said the "female" goes lighter and darker when the " male gets closer and at feeding times. This could be a sign that both could be males the reason why I say this is that the bigger one of the two will be the dominate male and the "kissing" part is normally a sign of fighting over territory.

If possible could you post some pics then we can give a better answer

Breeding behaviour? I think so, as they act like most Cichlids do!

    hi johan008,

the reason why i said it was a male and female, because only one of them has a distinguishable bump on the head, that is generally the male...the other fish, "the female", doesn't have a bump on her head, i was thinking that it could be breeding behaviour, but the fact that he chases "her" around the tank doesn't seem like breeding behaviour...

i can tell you now that they are both males. best remove 1 of them before you have a dead fish. GTs are known for not liking any of their own kind in the same tank as them. you right about the male having a hump but not only males get the bump. it could also be an age thing or a diet issue?

The Hump on the head also show dominance. Only the dominant male will get a "big" hump on the head and show awesome colours the other which you think is "female" will not get the hump and if he does it will be a small one and his colour will be very dull. best remove the smaller one before it gets beaten to death...

I do not believe that the "bump" on the head is a conclusive evidence of male-female telling.

Cichlids do generally change colour during both mating and fighting. We thought our angels morphed into another breed when we once saw them turn pitch black. (from gold). Only afterwards did we notice that they were guarding eggs.

Nice, 15 should be a manageable number and by no means a failure if they do survive.
