Okay I've ordered 2 GSP this coming weekend and i'd like to know if I can keep them with my angels? The LFS says they are freshwater fish but im reading that they need brackish water? also can I keep angels in Brackish water too?

Hi Jeeves, yes GSP's are brackish and angels not, so either of them is going to be unhappy. I had dwarf puffers before and they were serious fin nippers, not sure about GSP's.

@Jeeves: Most if not all dwarf puffer species are very fin nippy and their dietary requirements and water parameters make them more of a single species tank fish than a community fish.

@Jeeves Make sure to feed them a wide variety of foods. And you most probably read about the snails they need to trim down their teeth... Good idea is to start a snails only tank that you actually try and grow algae and 100 billion snails to feed to the puffers snails at least twice a week...

@BugMan well my golden apple snail seems to be giving off clutches for Africa ... now I know what I'm going to-do with them. I also have a tank full of shrimp

Puffers are great fish with very interactive personalities, but very agro. I please note that gsp's eventually require basically full marine conditions when mature and can reach a size of 15cm. Keep an eye on aggression between the two of them, add a lot of decor to the tank to keep them busy, this helps with boredom and aggression. They can definitely not be kept with angels. Google pufferpedia for a lot of good information on them.

We also get them at our lfs but they tend to be in bad condition because they are being kept in the wrong conditions.

See the bright side of it, now you have more time to set up the perfect tank

If you really want an angelfish looking species with them, then you could consider the mono/silver moony.
They would be fast enough to avoid the puffers, but a small school would need massive tank for living space.

Agreed mono/silver moony needs a massive amount if swimming space so might not be the best choice for a small tank.
