Long story short, I have been looking for a practical and affordable UV sterilizer for my setup for many months now. But I ran into several issues:

    1. The locally available Sobos are massive with the smallest coming in at over 30+ centimeters.
2.) I don't have a canister filter so inline was not going to work.
3.) Price point, if it wasn't Sobo then I was looking at more than R 2000 to get something properly imported.

So after many months of e-mail, looking, and searching I stumbled on something very interesting:

It was a bit more expensive than the Sobo units by about R 400 but much smaller and judging by the Amazon reviews it seems to be extremely popular and works like a charm:

So I decided to fork out the R 1300 so here is the setup/unboxing and review. Build quality is excellent no cheap plastics and everything seems to be solid and sturdy. Length is just under 25 cm a lot smaller and more compact than any of the Sobo units.

The unit comes with a pretty heavy PSU, with integrated (detachable power cables) and an indicator that shows if the lamp is still working or not.

I have already hooked it up and for the first couple of days will run it 24/7 till around next week when I will be running it 4 hours per day:

The flow rate it 200 liters per hour, which is great the more time the water is in contact with the UV lamp the better. The lamp is a 9watt.

Wow. I have seen and watched a couple YouTube videos on it. Very good unit. Perhaps if there are more people interested we can organize a group buy? Let me know how it goes. With my monster Sobo I have I noticed a difference in my algae boom in 3 days.

Going to run if 24/7 for a couple of days then cut back to 4 hours per day and will let you know the results.

Here the unit is installed in the tank sitting next to my 300-watt heater, and just a bit shorter in length:

So it has been running for a couple of days, the first thing I noticed water clarity has improved a lot and that "fish tank" smell is completely gone now. I have done a cleanup of the algae so will see how it goes in the next month. After that ill put it on a timer running 4 hours a day.

Great product, took the same plunge after a lot of reading and got one here via Amazon UK. Agree with your points, works really well, and its modularity is great.
I recall seeing a Jacob Castro video where he cleared up a massive pond in just 3 days with just the same 9W model (as opposed to the 24W model).

Okay been running for just over a month (been running it on a timer for 4 hours)per day and it is really helped with my algae issues. It is an expensive solution at around R 1300 but it definitely works.
