Just wanted to say thank you to Nortlands Pet Shop, in Springfield. The guy that helped me instore was amazing. Very knowledgable, listened to my requirements and advised accordingly, not just chasing the sale. Gave great advice and gave me a good price too!

Bought a Rio 125, he arranged delivery and promised that they would set it up. Figured that meant unloading and unpacking at best.

WOW, was I wrong. Deliver, unload, unpack, set up, move the existing gravel, swap the water and fish from old tank, plants, old filter and removed the old busted tank and stand.

They took professionalism and customer service to a whole new level and restored my faith in business!

110% recommended and although I have shopped there before and had great quality fish, this was above and beyond!

they are good no doubt but its unfair on the TASA sponsors. The sponsors contribute to the upkeep of this website while every other lfs gains exposure?

If you feel you need to edit it to remove the name then I won't stand in the way of politics. But its a local store that went out of its way, and hence I posted it under KZN and not in general, as I felt they went way above and beyond, and if I was local to KZN, then I would appreciate honest feedback from others, whether it be good or bad.

A mod can edit out the names if they wish.

I think the name should stay.

Northlands has, hands down, offered the best service to me over the years, and they have been the number one supporters of my hobby ever since I started. So keep the name here, because we should give credit where credit is due.

That was my feeling too. So many times we are taken for a ride, so that when you do experience service that goes way above and beyond, then it should at least be mentioned in the 'local' forums, away from where the main traffic goes, and just where the local boys hang around :)

Then again, I didnt get into politics for a reason, cant stand it!

Shakes, I actually have no idea where you're coming from with that.

Compared to the other shops in Durban, the majority of the prices are the same. And when I'm talking 'majority of prices', I mean your bread and butter fish, such as the livebearers, tetras, and community catfish.

Otherwise their prices are high - but it's all for a reason. I can guarentee you that no other shops in Durban offer you the same variety of fish, nor with the same quality. Northlands goes out of their way to source top-quality fish from local and overseas suppliers, providing not only a your standard community fish but a lot of rarer exotics as well. As for quality, they're unmatched. Where I've seen other shops selling of their sick fish, NLP actually medicates their sick fish and refuses to sell them.

I have to agree with you SA, but it does sound like you work there too ;)

Seriously though, I have never had an issue with their equipment or their fish. I bought a school of Rummy Nose and every single one of them survived! Granted they went into good quality water, but how often can you buy a school of over 10 fish and have every one of them survive!

I am happy to pay slighly more for good quality fish, and use their staff's great knowledge. Even their 'average shop hand' type person there seems to be an expert and dispenses 100% correct information.

I agree with SA on this point, previously you would hardly see some of the aquatic equipment
and fish that pass through NP(Northlands Pets- its too long to type out every time:p).
Another thing is that they have such a huge operation but their prices are
mostly market related without absurd cost absorption prices.

Hey guys... I'd like to chip in here.
Of all the stores in DBN, NLP is the best you can actually go to followed by Hillcrest pets. (Hence why this is pertinent to this forum and doesn't knock the postal/internet suppliers).
The wooden spoon goes to Pinetown pet world and aquatics and AFAIC the others don't even get a mention.
Price-wise, I've actually found that the top 2 are the cheapest as well as providing great service but every single shop seems to be distributor limited in the ranges that they keep.
Support the sponsors by all means but seriously, without the LFS, there wouldn't be a local hobby and you'd have little chance of saving your tank in an ick outbreak.

    Hey there,

sorry I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth here.

I have recently been there, and yes there knowledge and service is applauding. Pricing of equipment on the other hand is way out there. I purchased a fliter from them being naive that they would obviously be cheaper for R410. Seen the same exact unit here in Newcastle at the LPS and its R175 cheaper.

There produt is exceptional and honestly I will definitely go back to the store for their wide range however I will now check all pricing before I purchase. R175 on R410 is a lump sum.

All in all there service I would reccommend most definitley
