    hi guys,

I have 2 female and 1 male pearl gourami in my 2m planted tank (650lt)...i'm wanting to add another 3-4 more, but was looking at adding 3 spots rather than more pearl. yes/no? only female? or will another male work too?

    thanks

    I've got a 310L tank with 4 different Gourami's.
    2 x Pearl gourami's M & F
    2 x Cosby gourami's M & F
    2 x Golden gourami's M & F
    2 x REd dwarf gourami's unknown.

The only gourami that is a big bully is the male Golden gourami. He bully his girlfriend like madness. The pearl gourami's is very calm but they know how to stand up against the bully gourami's.

The only bad thing is when all 6 biggest gourami's team up and attack my soon to be mother molly.

I love gourami's but pending on your other tank mates, you might end up with fish hiding in a corner afraid to get bullied.

Usaully different gourami's fit very well together, the only one I would be very careful adding to a tank is the giant gourami, needs a lot of space as it grows easily to 30+cm and will chow smaller fish, another very beautiful gourami is of course the moonlight gourami, see that hey are more available these days in LFS. I have the following:
    1 Blue gourami
    1 Golden gourami
    2 Balloon kissng gourami's
    1 Red dwarf gourami
    2 Spotted dwarf gourami's
As said by @Stalker, if you have live bearers or fry in your tank the gourami's will eat them, ensure you have a lot of drifting/floating plants in your tank for hiding space in this regard.

@Valenshki - your saving grace is that you have a very big tank and that it is planted.... your 3 spot Gourami males get rather agressive with adult hood and WILL bully other fish.... Pearls aint as bad... Look at the Moonlight gourami as well - not as agressive as the 3 spot and its various colour morphs...

Mixed gourami species work in a tank if it is big and well planted - but expect some agression as they get older.

okay, cool thanks, i'll get a few of the cosby gouramis and watch them as they grow...i can always transfer a bully to my other planted community tank if a problem arises. i love the moonlight gouramis, but i wanted colourful gouramis due to my tank being a room divider and thus has no background....worried the white colouring wont show up so well....but they are lovely! i must say though the pearls are my favourite :)

It you buy the Cosby gourami's (male and female) while they are small and add them to your tank the male will not be that bad a bully againt your other existing fish. They hide most of the time when there is people in the room but if everybody stands still they will come out and they are beautiful. The biggest bully gourami I've got in my tank is male golden gourami, but he only bully his girlfriend gourami. If I add new fish in my tank only the golden gourami male and the angels WILL bully and kill the new fish. Everytime I want to add fish I must go through a prosess to add new fish. All the gourami's and Angels in my tank doesn't mind getting bullied now and then as when they get fedup they will defend and bully back and everything will be normal for a while.

    I love gourami's and angels.
