yey I got my new tank today. 1100 x 450 x 650 with a built in bio filter. It may be small compared to most of your tanks but its big compared to my 3 x 60L tanks. I'm just waiting for the silicone to dry completely. shell is already dry. Any advise will be greatly appreciated as I'm not use to such a big tank and i don't wont my well earned and well spent money to go to waste

    Very nice!!!

One word of advice: Take it slow and do all your research.

Awesome feeling getting a bigger and better tank. Nice one.

'Thanks Slagter and Corylyle. I think I'm gonna wait on the fish first then just start with plants while the tank cycles. I really want to do some of these ideas http://www.killies.com/Truthaboutmosses.htm

but i think i may need CO2 for this. so i still don't really know. That's why I'm going slow. I would love to have a moss wall or something that resembles grass at the bottom

    Hey Franna,

Congrats on the new tank. I agree, it is very daunting, and sometimes scary hen going from a small 60litre to something so much bigger. I went the same way.

And yes... spend a LOT of time going through what you want. I would even suggest going as far as deciding what to do with regards to your substrate. Trust me.. changing substrate after a tank has just finished cycling and you introduced the fish can be a really stupid thing to do. (yep... I speak from experience!)

PS... I like the stained glass above the tank.

Got it up and running . Got lights and plants in today.I just put some fish in so it doesn't look that empty. Still deciding what type of fish to get.

    Tank's looking lovely!
Are those Anubias? Tie them to a piece of rock/driftwood. I believe their roots rot when placed in sand.

    Franna,

You shouldn't put fish in a new tank for at least a week

The water needs to cycle a big to get the biological filter's bachteria going. If you haven't got anywhere to fut the fish into... I would SERIOUSLY consider taking the fish back to the LPS and ask them to hold them for you for a week.

Alternately if you really can't do that, but a bottle of Seachem Stability to assist with the bachteria getting colonised. Follow instructions on the bottle. I will go in detail a little later tonight if I get the chance on why you can't add the fish yet, don't really have the time right now.

(send me an email to ashley@iveconprojects.co.za to remind me and I can send you the details that way instead.)

Filled half the tank with water from my other tanks. used gravel from my other tanks. and used media from the other tanks filters. Was a bit yellow from the tannins in the water (Wood in the other tanks) but used Purigen to get that out. Talked to Derek about the cycling.

Oh and the oscar is just temporary, Im going to sell him. Read that this tank will be to small for him once he gets bigger. I have no idea what plants these are. Took them from my other tanks. Oh and the talipia is in there as well. Looking for someone who is going to the Limpopo/Zambesi river and willing to release him. ( Got him from someone who thought its an oscar(pet shop told her its an oscar))
