    Hi Guys

I got a 1.5m tank at a bargain. There is some minors to it. No scraches but a crack on the back, needs to fix a sump hole and add in some braces.

    1. What is the best way to fix the crack? (silicone only, replace panel or ?)

    2. What is the best way to close the hole that is in the tank ( silicone a small piece over the hole, replace panel?)

    3. Where should I put the braces and what thickness of glass should I use ?

    4. The cannister filter haas been standing for a while so the water inside is "vrot" how to clean the filter properly? Its a Dophin x700

Your help in this regard would be appreciated.

Rather replace the pane of brocken glass. 10mm glass for bracing. 5cm strips along the bottom.(over the length of the tank) and also at the top then you can also add cross braces at the top. Think 2 will work. So devide the tank in "3rds" and add 2 cross braces. The hole in the tank i dont know. Use a sump haha

Id rather get a sump with such a big tank... but if you do replace it, keep the side panel as im sure another member on tasa would be willing to take it off of your hands as it is quite expensive to drill a hole.... maybe just turn the panel the other side so the hole is at the top and that becomes your water lvl if you choose to keep it...

    Got glass. Yay.
Tried Kleon glass in the area and they asked R480 ex delivery ,phoned Glassfit and got it for R320 delivered.
Going to use the cracked back and cut it up for braces and the side panel.

    Yes I can't wait.

Now the tank does not have any braces in. I will brace as per Ryno
    help.

Do I glue all the joints first then glue the braces in or do I glue the braces on top of a "dry" joint inside the tank?

then the canister filter has been standing for a while so the water inside is "vrot" how to clean the filter properly?

If it's really bad you can clean it with plain water and bleach (no detergent). Of course you must rinse it very well afterwards with de-chlor.

Hi @adriaand. Congrats on the nice big tank. Remember to allow space for your canister pipes to get past the braces and into the tank. Also, that canister is far too small for that tank. Maybe get a 2nd bigger one to help that one along.

Are all the panels the same thickness - some look like 8-10mm others like 6 mm, could just be the angle on the photo's.

Are you stripping the entire tank or just replacing the base .. might be worth a full strip and rebuild, then you only have yourself to blame for any future issues ;-)

    Later Ferdie

All material is 6mm. I'm stripping the back and sides so its basically a full strip.

Hatched parts are braces. Thiis tank has a floating base. All glass 6mm.
    Would these braces be sufficient?
    Braces are 1350 x50 x6 and
    Top cross braces are 100 x445 x6.

yes they will be more then enough you could also add bracing in the corners going from the bottom to the top of the tank.
