    Hi everyone

    My Golden Ancistris spawned in my female betta 3ft tank. They hatched on the 29th of April 2012. I moved the male and eggs a few days ago to another 3ft tank prior to hatching as I was affraid that my betta females will eat the eggs or the fry. All have hatched since and they are cute little buggers. Here are some pics of the male guarding the eggs and the when they hatched. There is about an odd 30 or so of them.

    Hi @Moolis

    Here is the Golden Ancistris spawn we spoke about over the phone. Did not have a chance to get to you yet as I had a terrible weekend... 3 of my tanks crashed for some unknown reason, tested all my tanks water parameters on Thursday, all fine, did my normal routine water changes etc. Plan was to do some gravel cleaning on Saturday morning. Friday night lost 9 betta female's in the one tank, moved the rest that seemed to be fine to the Ancistris tank, come Saturday morning, 2 more tanks, the 4ft's crashed, same as with the 3ft's... I lost all my breeding female's except one Delta tail. On the 4ft's I have lost hundreds.... Luckily I bred with the females prior so at least I have hundreds of their offspring. I honestly don't know what happened with the tanks. My betta breeding female tank is up and running for nearly 6 months without incidents accept for the odd ich breakout but that was it. The others have been running for 2 - 3 months without any incidents, none. This was a very hard blow for me as I lost all my Imported Females I got from you...all of them. I still have all my males and they are doing great.
    The only think I did not test for was for too much oxygen in the water, but then why now 6 months later?

    @BBQ, thanks, will post some pics of the male and female later, they very shy and hiding under everything.

    @Jimmy, thanks man.

    I originally bought the female first at R120.00 and then only later on got the male at R65.00 because his tail part is a bit crooked. I have some more ancistris male and females but they are the Normal one's with yellow/orange dots all over them and they were cheaper to. Got them as babies and they are almost as big as the goldens now.

    Sheeesh! Sorry to hear about your tanks.

    What size were the goldens when you bought them? I bought mine for R40 @ 4cm long..

    Would like to get one or two of your fry from you when they are size.

    I would be interested in buying one or two Golden Ancistris off you once you are ready to sell.

    @Jimmy thanks, I'm heart broken about my betta's...I really have a passion for this species. My goldens was about 6cm long when I got them and have them about odd 5-6 months now. From research I've done they are breeding mature at the age of about 11 months. I know @Moolis has some goldens if you want some now so you can contact him at Pet Stop and he is also one of the sponsors here on TASA. He also sells them cheaper for what I paid for mine at another LFS and that LFS still asks R120 each. I now only buy my stock from Pet Stop.

    @woerman, we'll see when they are older and how many I have. I'm not breeding them on purpose for sale or anything but if I have to much, sure why not, special price for all TASA members since this is the best site ever for info, advice, learning and gaining experience aswell as meeting new people and friends. I personnaly learned a lot from members on this forum and nothing beats a wealth of knowledge and good friends.

    Hi all

    Just a quick update... I counted about 40 in all little fry and they are still growing very good. Fed them on algae wafers and girkins (spelling?) otherwise they live on the algae that grows in the tank naturally. I just let nature go its course here... well done nature... Will post some pics later of the little, well not so little buggers anymore.

    Hi all

    I planted my behind infront of one of my 4ft tanks this afternoon purely to observe. To my suprise I have found yet another suprise spawn.... this time with the normal type Bristlenose Pleco's. The young fry are almost as big as the Golden Ancistris fry. There are 3 females and 1 male in this tank. To think that I lost nearly 400 betta fry due to a very nasty bacteria in this same tank, I have drained 95% of this tank's water, refilled it with normal tap water after cleaning it thoughroughly, no water conditioner and no heater. In all this the eggs survived and the father protected them and carred for them while all the females scattered for their lives....makes you think.... Dad's Rule!!!! lol.
