    Hi All,

I am going to Thailand on the 17 and back again before month-end,

    I have two questions..
Was wondering on how will I import the fish I get them back here to JHB (based in Midrand)?
Second is anyone here interested in me bringing some back for them? (King of DIY called it Bulk shipment)

    Regards,
    St. John

    Hi St. John....

    Welcome to the forum....

Maybe you could start by introducing yourself......

You are very lucky.. wish I could do that trip..
Its not easy to bring back fish with you as you need permits to import

Depending on what you want to bring, there could also be extra requirements in addition to an import permit.
Here are contact details for you

Don't want to put a damper
But you will probably find it's not really feasable to do.
For starters, the documentation takes months to process
And the cost of it all will be very high.

It wont be easy... but.. it does take months and costs you a bit.. at the end you might as well order what you want from one of the local importers that already has permits
But.. wait and see what they say

It's possibly worth while for special fish - Rays, Arowana etc
For most other things, as @MariaS says, it's prob better to get them locally

    Have a good trip

    Who you flying with ...

Not only do you have our guys to contend with but you also have various carrier restrictions these days.

Remember your import limit (as in rand value) then as has been pointed out you are going to need to find the legitimate supplier that is will to do the paperwork for you on his side if you are thinking live stock - plants or fish.

Not sure if the land of smiles is your last and only international trip you ever want to make, but these days if you are caught trying to sneak anything past any border personal, that could land you on the bad boy list for travel. This could mean carries refusing you as a passenger, you refused visa's or the revocation of your passport so really not worth the risk in my view.

    Later Ferdie

Wow Ferdie, then maybe we will make this just for fun, would have been nice to get something financially.

    Thank you though!!

You mentioned guys do them locally, could you give me some details? Be great to meet some of them for coffee or a Skype call :)

I'm new to this forum and community, please let me know if I'm stepping on toes, that is not my intention!

It's not a matter of "stepping on toes". People are trying to advise you.
Importing fish into a country is a difficult process.
It's not as simple as going to a fish shop in the country you are visiting and then bringing them back home with you.
There are some guys on the forum who have imported fish, but as I said previously, it tends only to be worth while for high end fish.

    Hi Ferdie,

I am very impressed, I won't lie, I am even more excited about our trip next next Sunday :)

I hope there are going to be a lot of hiking trails around Phuket.

Phuket is awesome ... I assume you are flying in with Qatar ... they have some of the best luggage allowances. If you have time and budget - get to see some of the other islands also ... if you have plenty of time loose yourself at tonsai. Be safe and have fun.
