    The better question is where is this goby now :)

    Looks closely related to a stiphondon. Very difficult to ID them because they can change colour greatly.
    My nearest and this is only a guess would be close to a lipstick goby

    @Naomi - Its a Ghost or Barecheek Goby - Apocryptes bato.... Nice find!!! never kept them.. generally needs Brackish(on the low side - 1.005Sg) conditions... Aparently very easy to keep - comes from India

    Aaahh that makes sense..... as they had some night gobies aswell!
    @Vis saw them at a shop in Boksburg - they where about 6-7cm

    sorry to hijack here but since we on the goby subject,whats the concensus on knight gobies @azurekoi,are they strictly brackish google is being ambiguous.

    They're brackish but can be quite tolerant of fresh water provided you present the correct conditions - hard, alkaline water in this case.

    Thanx Tim - Yes...you can keep them in "fresh" water up here on the Highveldt due to our hard water....not so in the Cape - would do much better in a Brackish system there...

    @azurekoi I had a good look today at those gobies, they actualy had other ones, aswell a bit bigger labeled "Silver Ghost" but thet they had slight yet destinct differences to the above one who was labeled "Striped goby"?! :confused:

    Hmmnn... this is a Apocryptes Genus goby though... A.bato has a huge distribution from Madagascar to Japan - could be a colour variant,but still think thais one is A.bato... here is the old problem of Common names on dealers tanks popping up again...lol

    Thanx for the input! :beer: This one has had me scrathing my head, and I'm still not sure.... Maybe I must just get it so I can study it over a few months :idea:
