Since Kelly started keeping bettas and myself of late you start noticing specific things for these fish. I have come across the following. Penn Plax makes 2 Betta bow tanks a 400ml for 1 and 1.4l for 2 bettas being one of the larger fish accesory companies i find this abs disgusting its one thing for lfs to keep them in cups but Penn Plax is basically advocating keeping them in these conditions. Bettas need minimum 1 gallon and they need tropical water conditions they are not cold water fish there is just no fish that should be kept under these conditions. So ill be giving their things a miss in the future.
Heres some pics just to show you how ridiculous it is. They are sold for about R60 - R120 for this price you can buy a std 1ft which are usually about R55.

Edit: These are not viewing tanks they provide info on how to clean and do weekly maintenance in other words permanent tanks

The worst part is that I bought one of those tanks because people go on about how siamese fighters live in puddles etc etc so I thought a 1 Litre would be a step up from that. I was a well meaning novice and only because I did a hectic lot of research, did I realise the error of my ways. How many more people are being conned into thinking thats ok?

I agree with you in the fact that they shouldn't be promoting betta 'cups' at all, and in the same sense you shouldn't be supporting the shop who is selling them either. Several companies make small Betta housings, and the only reason why they still exist is because they sell. Let the LFS know what you think about these products, and should you see an aspiring Betta keeper, tell them about proper Betta keeping.

In all honesty, though, what has happened with regards to this product is not a reflection of Penn Plax/Cascade as a whole - I use several of their products which work brilliantly, and to avoid purchasing their products simply because they sold a betta bowl is, well, silly.

I would like to agree with you on this. Penn Plax/Cascade is one of the oldest companies with better quality products.
Remember, they produce for the demand / oppose competition!

I guess you guys are right. Its up to us to inform the lfs that we are not happy with them stocking these products(small betta tanks) at all and helping others from making the same mistake if there is no demand for the product it will be discontinued and if they dont stock it even better. I actually read somewhere someone put a goldfish in the 400ml one.
