Funny this type of tank / no substrate loads of aeration always makes me thing of the holding tanks for fresh fish for the plate.

I have seen this tank before on mfk.

Have heard that he closed it down due to the very high running costs. Not sure if that's true though

Yeah I also read something on the dailymail about his gas bill going sky high. Hope the bloke sorted it out.

    Agree with f-fish....
Its amazing yes, from a size etc... point of view but thesetanks with nothing, ie no substrate no wood or even plastic plants, to make thefish feel in a more natural environment, just don’t cut it for me... maybe Imjust full of nonsense but it does look like a holding tank....

bare bottom (to use an Americanism) tanks are not uncommon in this size, you can't vacuum substrate or shift stuff around, all you have is flow to move detritus to filter intakes, thus the less obstruction in the system to hinder flow, the better. Plants are normally found in shallow water, so you would not expect them in rivers at the depth of this tank either.
I would have added some more rock and tree trunks, but each to his own.
Unless you use solar power, the running cost will put a serious dent in your wallet.
for those interested in huge tanks, check out monsterfishkeepers.com to see some seriously big setups
