hi guys i have a juvenile giant gourami, from what i read on these fish they do not seem to be an aggressive species, mine however chases other fish around the tank during feeding and if any fish come too close to him, basically he prefers to be left alone, is this normal? i know they tend to be more solitary fish when they are adults.

Hi Besh... I was compelled to remove my GG from a tank with Oscars as it targetted an Albino Oscar to the extent that most scales on the one side of the Oscar was almost totally bitten off.... It also kept going for my Pangassius (almost double his size)..... Many years ago, however... I kept one that was peaceful and did not bother the other tankmates.... So I guess it is the individuals' personallity which determines his behaviour.

I have noticed with dwarf gouramis that they do fine in a community if they lived
or grew up with others. Once you move them or let them live on their own for just a while they
then attack all other fish when you put them back in a community.

The Giant Gourami are generally a peaceful fish but it is noticed in the Albino species as they get larger they tend to bully & harrass other fish in the tank.
In general and in my opinion I think they are aggressive fish at adult hood, my Redtail Giant Gourami is about 8cm and it is already showing signs off aggression but I love the little bugger.
