Sorry for all the questions seems like i have alot today:smile1: So the sump is ready and im really curious to get the thing going it has 1 compartment of filter floss and 1 compartment for the ceramic rings. and the mechanical filtration is already done before it gets to the sump (above tank sump). I would just like to know do i just boil the rings to get rid of residue and anything stuff and then can i run the sump immediately well tonight or should i rather do it when i can keep an eye on the fish to make sure theyre all good. Thanks

don't the rings have directions on the package?
I can't find the box my rings came in but I rinsed them in aquarium water in a bucket . sure that's what you should do.

its always beter to monitor dude, incase fish get sucked up or something, anything really is beter if it happens when you are there . try get some bio balls as well for filtration .

Always fill up the tank and the sump with pump OFF - this prevents the sump from overflowing if the maid/kids/wife/eskom turns off the power

I would sugget you rather use bio-balls as they need not be replaced, just washed. Ceramic rings will eventually get all clogged up and become less effective.
As Henk says, fill your tank and let it flow into the sump untill you reached the desired power off level. If not you will experience a wet carpet/floor someday. Normally happens in the early hours of the morning so you can have wet feet before going off to work on a Monday morning, after you woke up late because of the great weekend you had!
